Default When to shift

Hi all,

I am about to get a Touring in Daytona Blue with 6spd manual. Unfortunately i have never driven manual before I am practicing on a crx now before i step up to the big leagues when i get my car. Anyway i was wondering when you guys shift, (i.e. off the launch for regular driving, and off the launch for racing, etc) Can someone help a neub to manual out ?

If you mean starting from a stop, I don't rev the engine before I go. I let off the clutch until it bites and then give it gas while letting off the clutch somewhat slowly. As far as normal upshifts, I usually do that at 3k rpms and downshifts at 2k rpms. I've never dumped the clutch for a hard launch, but I'd assume you'd rev the engine up to 4-5k rpms and let the clutch out fast.

I shift at 1 1/2 RPM....with gas prices the way they are....driving slow just saves you money and makes you look like you don't NEED to drive fast in order to have a nice looking car... just gives more people more time to stare at her go

Oh, I know the gas situation better than most being from the Bay Area, but man... I have trouble shifting at 2K (not to mention 1.5!)!

I typically keep it at 2-2.5 during warm-up and around 3-4K during normal city driving.

for starting, specially new to the car on a stiff clutch. 1.5k-2k might help limit stalls. with practice and a little breakin, I get it going at 1k sometimes if Im on a flat road.

shifting, I take it to 3k ussually, might stay in 1st or 2nd a bit longer.

Ive been shifting lower so I can hear the roar of the exhaust in the low RPMs. higherup it levels out, but down low mmmmmm.

And you think you guys have got a problem with gas prices!!

The UK at present is about £0.75pence per litre. This works out at about £3.40 per gallon (our gallons are slightly larger than yours for some reason!). I think £3.40 is about $6!!

Not good at all! (at least not if you drive a Z)

My first manual car was a 2002 rsx-s. I had driven manual before, but not regularly, and I wasn't very proficient (A littel choppy). Want to hear something weird? I found that alot of my practicing, I did in my sleep. I'd wake up and realize I was practicing in my dreams. Needless to say, when i picked up my RSX-S, I drove it off the lot like I had been driving standard for 30 years. As you could imagine, the Z was pretty easy to handle after my experience with the RSX-S.

Same here. I'm not gonna worry about saving $5 a week on gas.
