Talking OMG! My tires! My poor tires!

I just took an old colleague of mine who is "on the list" for a very short spin around the block. After a brief five-minute jaunt, I came to a full standstill on a side street to demonstrate a launch with the VDC off. I would have never guessed that not only would I spin the tires up in first, but that once I shifted to second I'd spin the tires half-way through second gear before letting off the throttle. Man, it was NUTS! MY old CTO was grinning ear-to-ear and giggling like a school girl.

Nissan, where's my sales commission?

2000 here too. I think the "fix" for that is a passenger. Seriously, this is only the third time I've launched like that and with the passenger (~230 lbs.) it was much, much different on takeoff. The car DID NOT step out sideways. The first two times were solo and much like yours with the wheel hop.

I'd be interested in hearing of others testing adhesion and take-off with and w/out a passenger. Of course you don't really want a passenger for 0-60 runs, but it's an interesting experiment.

The Z has some serious power... hell, I shifted into 3rd at 5500rpm and spun the tires...

WHAT THE HELL FORUM JUST CHANGED WHILE I WAS TYPING...LOL?????

where was I. I only get a occasional chirp in 3rd, and the Angel and the Devil post above is funny as hell but very true

No doubt the car has a lot of low-end grunt. I have tried a few starts with VDC and without and discovered the TCS in the Z seems to be pretty agressive in stopping wheelspin. It holds it down until about 3/4 of the way through 2nd.

I LOVE those third gear chirps. Very satisfying because the engine gets getting louder, and louDER, and LOUDER as you approach redline. Nice to end it with a clunk and a screech.

Of course, every launch I am thinking about this webpage:

You should be thinking about the page with the S0-3s. Less expensive and MUCH better tires.

Still in breakin (~600 mi), but 1,2 chirp just seems natural with VDC off. I've only got tramp on new asphalt. I don't expect any of these gyrations when I load a revised tire/wheel package in a couple of months: Michelin A/S in 245x40x18 & 275x40x18 on 8.5/9.5 TE37's. Should make for some sporty holiday travel.
