Cool The Ultimate Tint thread......

Ok, I guess it's safe to say that tinting our Z's is the most common "mod"...... Then there are newB's (like myself) who also want to join the darker side but don't know where to begin.....

so.........

Please take the time out to answer a few quick questions...

- What % do you have

- Brand of tint?

- Price

- Where you got it done ( so members in your area will know )

Before anyone asks, YES, I did a search, but there are way too many threads to go thru to find out who has what for how much and where.....

TIA

ps - Anyone heard of Solar Guard? Any good?

49% on fronts, 35% on rears.

Sorry, don't remember. Began with an L, I think.

- Price
$120 for all 5 windows.

Magic Car Stereo and Alarm in Long Beach, near Signal Hill. Drove in and out in about 35 minutes. Got their name/address from a recommendation here on my350z.

Here in CA, front window tint is illegal, but especially here in SoCal a lot of people get tint anyway because of the sunny weather. I've been stopped once, but once I showed the cop my California Medical Board license he let me go.

20% sides, 5% visor, quarter windows, and rear.(if your gonna be illegal, may as well make it worth while)

I think 3M, but might have been lumar(or is 3m called lumar...)

170$, was 150 for the 5, 20$ for the visor strip

hotspot tinting. they have the 150$ price as a discount for 350Zs. or atleast they did a year ago, I assume they still do.

20% all around. End price was $120 and I don't remember the brand of tint, but it's high quality stuff from what I can tell. Don't think it'd be worth mentioning the place I got mine installed at, since this town is pretty small (only one other Z here in town and I don't think he's on this forum).

20% all around and paid about $160. I was gonna go with 5% originally but was concerned with visibility, but now i wish i had gone with the 5%

It seems that many hear tint their Zs.

1. Does it look that better with tint?

2. What about compromise in viz? When you talk tinting, are you referring to that film you actually paste on the glass?

3. Ins't there a better way like buying tinted glass?

Matter of opinion, but IMO the car looks great with tint.

Yes, it's film you put on the glass, but unlike the stuff you buy in rolls at Pep Boys and put on yourself, this stuff is installed professionally for better adhesion and sizing. Plus, you usually get a warranty. If you do it yourself, more often than not it looks like crap and will start bubbling in a short period of time.

3. Ins't there a better way like buying tinted glass?
Never heard of installing tinted glass, but my guess is to replace all the glass in your car except the windshield would be a huge installation hassle, as well as expensive. Using tint film works well, is easily replaceable, and is customizeable - say you want to change to a darker tint. Just peel off the old film and install the new one.

during the day, I have no problems with the 5% on the back window, which of course is harder to see through, being that its farther away from the mirror, and sloped. but still, no problem. so no concerns during the day for any windows.

now at night... when backing up in a dark area like a driveway or the like, I cant see anything out the back, and the sides are sketchy. I ussually roll my window down to get a clear view. and thats with 20% on there. out in the open driving, you can see shapes and headlights out the back, but still pretty dark. sides are functionally visible.

if you dont mind rolling down your side window to look in the mirror at night, then its fine. if you really just have an issue with that, I suggest 35 or 50%.

10 % all the way around.

Not sure, but Pat said it was the best.

Paid $100

Tint Works in Coeur d'Alene, ID. I had Pat (the owner) do the install. He is by far the best in the area. He has done all my vehicles and all of my friends vehicles.

Generally speaking, how long does a tint job last?
