Default Pre-order now?

I am turning 15 in 2 days. I am getting a 350Z as early as December 2004. Do I need to go ahead and pre-order it in order to get it by as early as December 2004? If I do, do I have to put a down payment on it, and if so how much is it? I want to deal with Sutherlin Nissan - Mall of Georgia, are they a good dealership? I would have to travel about 200 miles to deal with them, so obviously I have heard good things about them. Any help would be great.

No need to pre-order as there are plenty of Zs around now. As far as that dealership goes, I don't know anything about them so I can't say anything

Dealerships always have Zs in stock. It's just they don't always have the exact trim with the exact options in the exact color that people want. That's why they order them. Especially don't order it if you don't know when you'll be getting it. I doubt any dealer is going to want someone's Z sitting on their lot indefinitely (unless they charge you storage fees).

I want an Enthusiast-Redline-Manual-Cargo Convenience Package- Side Curtain Air Bags-Floor Mats, I haven't found it though. I found one in Kennesaw, GA that was just like that without the Cargo Convenience Package. So it's hard to find exactly what I want, which is why I was wondering if I should order it soon. I meant as early as December because I didn't know how long it would take to get it built and sent to the dealership. I can get it as early as December, but it doesn't really matter as long as it is between December and before March. And, the Z is so popular they wouldn't have a problem getting rid of one someone pre-ordered and never bought.

If you're not getting the Z until December, you'll be getting a 2005. Those don't go into production until around August (which is when I believe they also start taking orders), so there's no point in ordering in March. I suggest you try to contact the dealer to find out when they will start taking orders for the 05s and see how long they expect it to take. I talked to my dealer about trading in my 04 for an 05 back in January and he thought it would take about 3 months to come in if I ordered it in August.

As a side note, you can always order the Cargo package separately.

I contacted the dealer, he/she (didn't give a first name) said that I need to pre-order 3 months before I plan to purchase and would have to put a down payment on it (didn't say how much). But thanks for everyone's help. trackstar-

Here's the copy of the message though:

=======Hello Brandon,

Thanks for choosing Sutherlin Nissan Mall of Ga. I will do all I can to help you out. Turning 15 must be exciting for you. Brandon you can order the 350Z any time you want, just as long as you do it 3 months prior to your purchase. Brandon you would have to come to the dealership to place the order because we would need a down payment when you order. Since you are only 15 you would need to bring someone who is 18 or older so that we can complete the purchase. We do this because it is illegal for us to sell a vehicle to a minor. If you can do that then you will have no problems when you come here to buy. If you have any question feel free to call me at 678-714-1885.

Sincerely,

I. Khan

not trying to hate here but IMO the Z is not something you should get as a first car. can't imagine what your parents are thinking...this sounds like a really bad idea.

300hp+RWD+0 driving experience+Ridiculous Insurance=Not a good idea.

No joke, but get a Honda first. You will have enough fun driving as it is. Then, when you think you've mastered driving, you can move up.

Just to defend myself, i'm getting a Z no matter what, and I don't want a fight to start here. It is a 287hp and 274 torque at the flywheel car, which is around 244hp and 230tq at the wheels, not that fast. Also, it is MUCH safer than a motorcycle. My brother got a 2000 Cheverolet S10 Xtreme (4.3 V6) when he turned 16 and my oldest brother got a 1995 Ford Ranger Splash (V6) when he turnd 16 too, so a Z is reasonable. Just try not to hijack my thread which is concerning pre-ordering, not whether a Z is safe for a 16year old. BTW, Z has 2 seats, your the person driving, so you can only have 1 other person, it's easier dealing with peer pressure from 1 person the 3 or 4. Insurance is pretty bad already, we have like 5 or 6 cars on insurance account as it is, one being my brother's '03 Ford Mustang GT. There are 3 or 4 people on here with 350Z's that are younger than 18 and I think they are still alive. But back to the topic, don't hijack the thread, it doesn't need to be carried on anyway, I got my answer already.

Can't you all just imagine what's going to happen the first time he turns off VDC and punches the pedal to the floor....

I'm sorry but this is not the car to learn on. Pilots don't learn to fly in an F-18; they start with a Cessna then work up to a T-38 then a real jet.

honestly i just remember the stupid **** me and most of my friends did at that age..if any of us had that car it wouldve been destroyed...with us in it. maybe you are an extraordinary 15 year old . i was only trying to make you think twice about it but clearly you have already made up your mind. you say its not that fast...that kind of makes me think you don't have an idea of the situations that kind of power can put you in...its nothing to take lightly. anyway i was only looking out, not trying to pick a fight...just tired of seeing kids dying in STI's/Z's/EVO's thats all.

Just to clarify, I know to respect the car and it's potential because as soon as you think you are invincible, you get in a wreck. As far as me saying it's 'not that fast', I meant it's not that fast compared to other cars, from what i've seen (videos and such), you can really get down on it. I'll try my best not to get killed or hurt. I have the same traits as far as cars as my brother has, he is 21 and an excellent driver, he's had one wreck (DUI), but he had had trouble already with drinking and driving. But i'm not like that, i've never drank, smoke, etc. But I would like to end this topic here, last time it got way out of hand. Hope to see some of you people in the SE at meets in the future.

Videos? I believe you mean videos of races - where all the cars in the video are much faster than the average street car. That you don't think that the 350Z is a fast car shows that you don't have the enough respect for the car's abilities and limitations. That, combined with your lack of driving experience is a dangerous combination. No, the 350Z is not as fast as a 911 Turbo. But it's a hell of a lot faster and more dangerous than a Civic - and even the Civic is many times faster than necessary to kill you (plus your passengers and several people in another car).

Remember, Lance Armstrong's first bicycle had training wheels, just like everyone else's.

Hey I can understand your enthusiasm. We were all kids once. I would suggest what I tell everyone. Buy a day driver car (old peace of s***) that you can do whatever you wish to as long as it’s safe. And when it breaks down, fix it. Then drive your Z over weekend. Otherwise, pay some courses on how to handle this monster and NEVER EVER DRIVE in a bad weather.

Not video's of races...burnouts. Did you not read my last post? I said it isn't fast compared to other cars, and also said I would respect it. My first four-wheel machine was a fourwheeler, bad example comparing cars to bicycles. Mods?, care to close this thread so it doesn't get out of hand?
