Default Out of state purchasers

This question is for all those that bought their Z out of their home state.

Which state were you charged sales tax in? I am thinking of eventually getting the Z in NY state but I live in MA. Any other caveats? Thanks for the input.

If you are taking the car to another state, you will pay the sales tax in YOUR state when you register it there.. But.. if you register it in the state of purchase and re-register it in your home state, you may pay the sales tax twice..

Where I live in NY, our sales tax is 6 3/4%. I purchased my "Z" in NY but several towns away. The sales tax in the town I purchased the car in was 8 1/4%.. But.. I was charged the 6 3/4%..Savings for a years og gas, I guess..

I'm getting mine from MD and registering it in SC... in SC there is a cap on tax...don't know what other states may have the same. I'll pay $300 in sales tax. hope that helps

I live in Georgia. I bought a new S-10 in Missouri, and didn't pay anything at that dealer other than the sales price. They gave me the MSO (manufacturers statement of origin) and I titled it myself, then paid the sales tax in georgia after they sent me a bill. For the Z, my dealer in NC was able to charge me GA sales tax and is taking care of my georgia registration so I don't have to. Paid GA sales tax to them

Default Coulda saved $2500!!!

I bought my car in Utah, dealer did not charge me sales tax since I would be titling it in California.

Went to title it on Monday at the CA DMV. The clerk lady asks me, "Did you pay sales tax in Utah?" I said "No." She has someone inspect the car for VIN, CA emissions, and mileage.

Then tells me "Well, since you didn't pay sales tax in Utah, your total is $2539." Just like that. A simple yes or no question on sales tax. Coulda said "hell yeah, they charged me tax. I was afraid I was gonna have to pay it twice". Or some other BS like that. Oh well, at least I paid tax for an Enthusiast model instead of Performance, saved a little.
