Could someone explain to me the point of a grounding kit? Do you actually see any real difference after installing one?

The point of the grounding kit is to stop electrical noise generated by the engine from interfering with the sensor signals that the computer receives to control things like A/F mixture, timing, etc.

I just put a grounding kit on my car and I would say that the idle is noticeably smoother, and it would stand to reason that if the idle is smoother, power-delivery all through the band is going to be smoother as well.

For around $75, it's a great first mod, and while you may or may not notice a difference, it can't hurt your car.

which grounding kit is most favored by everyone else? Is there a "best" one???

 

most kits are the same. difference being the gauge of the wire. i have a grounding kit, and don't really notice a difference at all. it just looks in the engine bay.

 

i think its kinda like when the new kid in school was told to go check out the pool on the roof on his first day. . . it sounds like a good story, but its all a trick.

i have one and the most i can say is it looks cool.

 

I have to agree with Aproy, I have a 14 gauge kit bought from e-Bay. Very well made with good instructions. Easy to install, but to be honest, I have not noticed any difference.

I have insaneamine's grounding kit and I must say both the quality of the kit is amazing and the difference it has made is equally so.

I've found my car's idling and acceleration (especially in 1st & 2nd) to be much smoother after installing it.

I also found the above linked installation guide made putting it in a breeze.

I highly recommend it. Cheap, simple, looks good and makes a difference.

 

I've always looked at grounding kits to be more hype then anything else

you would think Nissan would spend the extra 2 maybe 5 bucks "what it would cost them" to put better ground wires on their cars to make them run that much smoother as with more power!!!!!!

I think it's 98% looks and the other 2% is um well Im not sure where that is =)

 

um your kidding right? have you ever went to an audio shop to buy speaker wire before? that stuff is crazy expensive! thats what the kits are made of is high quality wires. the factory ground wires are crap. i did notice a slight difference on mine, nothing like installing headers. but it really smoothed out my idle. on my car though i have to say that if it gives me even 1 hp ill take it bc every little bit adds up!

LOL you're very right! if I go to lets say best buy and buy some 4 gauge wire it cost out the a$$ but then again they have about a 80% markup I've seen some wiring kits "ground/RCA/amp" for 80 bucks!!!!! I paid $19.99 for my wiring kit 15 feet of 4 gauge wire with 10 foot long RCA cables and a 10 foot amp wire

anyways my point of this reply is when I say nissan could buy the wire for couple bucks its becuase THEY CAN!

bypass the big name stores and buy direct from a supplier tell them you want 5000 feet of 4gauge ground wire
trust me it would cost under 5 bucks a pop to do one car

Im not sure what the endpieces would cost but the wirealone I know you can get for pretty cheap unless you buy into the hype brands/stores

and even if it cost Nissan 20 bucks to do ONE car why would they not do it? just think if they could get the car to put out an even 290HP VS the 287 they list would it not be a much nicer selling point =)

 

I have the JDM Nissan kit. Personally, I think it made a difference, not in HP, but in smoothness and idle. I think it's too optomistic to believe that there is a hp gain.

Definitely worth it for the money, easy way to catch the mod bug.

 

yeah its an add-on option in Japan... Its kinda like getting the K&N filter... shouldn't expect miracles, but it lets your car breathe easier. I think its worth it cuz i've seen car mags review them and most of them say its a good starter mod
