Hey, they call it "Mighty." At least they show some respect.
I was thinking the same thing.

I don't like the Foretser's chances if/when lined up directly with the 350Z (and that is with out the 4 people and dog on board). I am not aware of there being a direct comparision yet ... maybe someone has done so on the streets?

Though, the 5.3sc claim from Subaru seems to be based on the Car & Driver write up from August '03:
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=4

They managed some very impressive nummbers .... not sure if they can be repeated (as I have not seen anyone else get close to those), or if the car was 100% stock (ie. not a ringer), but here are the numbers:
- 0 to 30 mph: 1.3
- 0 to 40 mph: 2.6
- 0 to 50 mph: 3.6
- 0 to 60 mph: 5.3
- 0 to 70 mph: 6.9
- 0 to 80 mph: 9.2
- 0 to 90 mph: 11.8
- 0 to 100 mph: 15.0
- 1/4-mile: 13.8 sec @ 97 mph

On the other hand Motor Trend has matched the above numbers to 60mph with the 350Z, and well and truly surpassed them to 100mph. Though, 1/4 mile time is close and only marginally in favour of the 350Z .... the Forester must get really well of the line and jump the 350Z by at least a couple of car-lengths. Still, I'm talking hypothetically as I'm not aware of the 350Z being lined up with the Forester.

btw, here are the numbers for the 350Z from Motor Trend:
- 0 to 30 mph: 1.8
- 0 to 40 mph: 2.9
- 0 to 50 mph: 4.0
- 0 to 60 mph: 5.3
- 0 to 70 mph: 7.0
- 0 to 80 mph: 8.9
- 0 to 90 mph: 11.3
- 0 to 100 mph: 13.0
- 1/4-mile: 13.77 sec @ 100.94 mph

For all your Subaru wagon fans there is an new website for you: www.mywagon.com, it's got feature stories on tuning your automatic, packing groceries and tips on picking up soccer moms. There are also links to other "enthusiast" websites such as: the sierra club and Martha Stewart living. Happy Motoring!

The real shame here is that someone here WOULD lose to the SUBARU

PS, its an SUV not a wagon

I have a WRX wagon and it can no doubt keep up with my Z in the corners as well as the straights...As for the 35K econo box, you can get STi's all day long for invoice which is 28k...Dont get me wrong I love the Z more then the WRX, but subaru's whole line up of performance cars are top knotch...

Just commenting from a car enthusiast point of view

*awaits flaming that always occurs when I defend other cars*
I'd be careful using the words "car enthusiast" and "station wagon" in one sentence. It's like saying "high performance" and "KIA" or "hottie" and "Rosie O’Donnell". That just not kosher.

Everyone's arguments are that the Z looks better, and so what if its just as fast its UGLY...Then you want to say that Im not a car enthusiast...My WRX wagon is every bit of the car the Z is...If I had to get rid of one would it be the Z...No, it would be the WRX...Would I buy a turbo Forester for myself...No...I hate SUV's, I wouldnt even buy a Turbo Cayanne(sp?), but I have respect for them...That is how enthusiast is defined...They respect all car...I bought a Z because I liked the car, if I wanted the best performance 2 seater under 50K I would have bought a Vette or s2k...But Ive loved the heritage of the Z...And no Im not old enough to have owned an old 240/60/80 or 300ZX...Im only 22, but I have respect and knowledge of automotive history

With that said...Im done with this agrument...Its been fun

I quote from car and driver's article on the Forester, "At altitude, the Forester engine just didn't have enough suds. That's a real problem for a Subaru, because Subaru wagons have become standard issue in ski areas."....so this should end the SUV or wagon debate.........IT'S A WAGON!

Ok, I was janking your chain. I'm an enthusiast as well and can appriciate good cars, the STi is impressive. Here is my problem with the Forester ad and subaru ads in general. They always comapare themsefes to other cars. If they were that good they could stand on thier own merit. Also I recall seeing 0-60 times of 5.2 sec of the track pack in Car and Driver.

Comparing a passenger car and a sports care is totally black and white. There's plenty of wagon/suv's that are faster than a Z(which im sure we would all pick over subaru's wagon/suv). Frankly the Z has style and the subaru forrester does not. Honestly I doubt a Z owner would waste the gas messing with a forester.

Sorry forester homie you just got laughed at by the Z owner.

I agree. Sports cars like the Zed and suv's are apples and oranges. I personally HATE SUV's.. they guzzle gas, block the view of the road with their ground clearance, and are ALWAYS in the way of a nice, tasty corner! But if i had to haul kids around, or carry hockey equipment I would take a wagon. At least the audi one is nimble, is boosted and doesnt block the road

3 things:

First of all...that ad is a fake...some subaru fans photoshopped the real ad, which made no mention of the 350Z

Second of all...the car AT BEST traps 97mph...and from what I've seen...owners have only gotten 94-95mph traps out of them....hardly competition for a Z anywhere north of 30mph.

Third...the guy that said that his WRX handles just as well as the Z does is ON CRACK. Assuming both cars are stock a Z will walk all over the softly spung , undertired, understeering WRX on a roadcourse.

Do you own both? I do lol. It's my opinion

BTW: I didnt say that it would beat a Z on the track but it will sure as hell keep up with it...and the RE 92's arent that bad...
