My daily driver is an '02 Maxima SE and it doesn't make any sounds like you've described-- that's not normal!!!

zshadow stopped by my house and we found out it was a normal sound. It's the "clutch out, in neutral while idling" grind. (throwout bearing noise).

tanted gasoline? Run a tank of gas from another station before messing with your engine mods.

Umm...didn't you just have a hissy fit earlier in this thread that it WASN'T the throwout bearing noise?

btw: My Z's in getting new front tires as we speak - they are also going to check that exact noise to see if it's normal. The mechanic heard it as I was in the garage dropping it off. My dealership is good, so we'll see what they have to say.....

MRfire, I think we got our signals crossed.
What I meant is that a lot of people think the "rattle at idle" is a problem. Well, it may be a problem but it is common.

What Zshadow described didnt sound like the rattle at idle. Which is why I thought he didnt have it. But as soon as he pulled up into my house I heard it. I said "step on your clutch" and it went away. I thought he was referring to lifter tick or timing chain noise prior to this.

I dont have hissy fits by the way

good luck with your Z

dunno if thats your problem tho...
I think this might be my mystery noise

No harm, no foul. Dealer said they couldn't find a problem

On the good side, no more roar at low speeds

Did they tell you the "clutch rattle" was normal??

hey mrfire, glad to hear about no more roar. I still have it
I'm getting tired of hearing "cant find the problem" from my damn dealer too.

Yea they told me the clutch chatter was normal. Most manual Z's I've heard have it.

btw: Your dealer give you any $hit about your popcharger?

So your dealer won't get ya new tires?? What a crock man. It's way better now. Mine was bad, it would shake the whole damn car! All I did is take the head mechanic for a ride and he says "yep, you have the feathering problem". Regarding the Popcharger, they actually installed it for me! Like I said, my dealership is awesome, they really take care of ya. Well, good luck to ya.
