Default 240sx...

A friend of mine just told me that her friends family is selling off his '94 240SX because he's shipped off over seas and the car just sits around and nobody drives it...She told me they're selling it for $500 and according to her the only thing wrong with it, is the temp. gauge! I do not know if it's a manual or an automatc, but would those $500 be worth it, if for nothing else than to do an engine swap?!?

Or it might just be a good car to muck around with. That's what I'm doing with my old Celica (that my z replaced): using it for "experimentation" since I really don't know anything (yet) about cars and mods.

Shoot, if I lived closer to FL, I'd buy it. It's always nice to have a beater...

As far as I know the SR20DET is a very good engine to work with and I've heard of guys doing engine swaps with their 350Zs...anybody have input on that?!?

This came up not too long ago. It's definitely been done. It shaves some weight of the Z in addition to any gains it gives. I'd point you in the right direction, but that whole broken search thing...

...if the car is in good shape, a silvia conversion wouldn't be outta the question either ...I'm going to check it out later this evening!!! so the SR20DET in a Z would mean less weight, plus the potential for more power?!?

I can't be positive about the power, because the one I saw (I wish I could remember whose it was) had a bunch of other mods under the hood too.

You should find out if it's a standard or an auto.

That car doesnt have an SR20DET in it. Those 240's came with a KE20DE, which is a non-turbo, non built similar engine. Only Jap spec model came with the SR20DET. Just FYI.

Now that you don't want it, you should find out about the tranny.

1994 240SX's came with KA24DE engines, the same found in the Altima, the Xterra, and the Frontier until recently. Decently strong engine that can, with the help of a turbo, put out ~300rwhp IIRC without internal modifications, but not quite on the same level as the SR20DET. If you aren't planning on making crazy amounts of horsepower the KA24DE will suit your purposes just fine, although you won't get the experience of actually doing a full engine swap.

Default 240

I Have a 240SX right now that I am selling. It has a full kouki S14 conversion, SR20DET conversion, basic bolt ons, turbo upgrade, GP sports aero kit, Cusco coilovers MORE!!!

Guess what, I am selling it all to get a Z! I love the 240, but its a 10 year old car...and I am looking to get something new, nicer, with just as much potential...The only things I could think of that could have the potential that could replace the S14 is the 350Z or a supra...Supra is too HP oriented, and too drag oriented for me. I like the twisties and most of all, I love to drift!

I did see the guy that drifts in the US with his Vertex Z with the SR20....its nice, but those engines are getting old, and unless you got money to fix it up and do things right, you will eventually run into problems...but they are fixable.
The engine is a great engine though, I personally like the smoothness and the linear power of the torque-y 6cly. Plus I love the sound of the Z!!! especially with TT on the Z, i think it will definately be well worth the switch between the S14 and the 350Z. man.. I cant' wait!!! HEHE..... : )

personally, i dont like S13 240's...i like the S14 like i have (95-98).
If i found a good price for one and already had a Z, I would definately use it for a beater/crazy drift car!!!
BUY IT! hehehe!

Jon
S14 Kouki Silvia(240SX)......R.I.P.
