Default Tach/RPM signal source?

Just finished my vq swap in my 240sx... I tried pulling an RPM signal from the ground of a coil and no luck there... I have a feeling that I am going to have to get the MSD tach converter but I am hoping not... Any suggestions?

Possible the signal side of a coil? I am little nervous to try that without alittle reassurance it would work...

Thanks

Or ECU pin #60, I believe.

Ya, so the signal wire of the coil... I've seen references to using those before for rpm signal before, but like I said, just looking for some reassurance... I've already had one scare where I thought I blew my ECU, just wanted to avoid that again if all possible

I'll try that tomorrow and report the results...

You should use an injector wire for a much better signal... I have had bad luck with tapping the coils, the pulse width is so low it doesn't work with everything. Other than that, the signal you really need (rpm, speed, ect) is on the CAN bus...so yea, good luck

easiest and safest is to get a GMR tach pick up from autometer and get your signal from a coil. No tapping or cutting into wires, it's an induction p/u

I pushed a thin wire into the backside of the coil connector to try to get rpm from the signal wire... It works, but ya, it is a little weak. I am using a Tach signal converter to turn the 6cyl signal into a 4cyl signal for the stock 240sx tach. The converter just multiplies/divides accordingly. Well, if the signal was solid, I would just set the converter to 6cyl engine/4cyl gauge... However, since it is so weak, I had to set the converter to 2 cycle engine/4cyl gauge to multiply it enough.... The rpm does match what the OBDii is showing though, so I'll take it out on the road and if it stays solid, I'll probably leave it be. No reason to be worried about messing up the ignition signal, is there?

Thanks all!

Hi guys, i bought the Defi Advance ZD for my 2005 350Z.

I've wired everything up but the tachno doesn't seem to be working, as i had followed the instruction but i think our ECU and the one in japan are different.

Then i had tried pinning the signal from the back of the ECU from injectors and ignition as well as some guys had mention on the forum but still no luck.

On page 66 of the instruction (http://www.defi-shop.com/media/zd.pdf)
It says Waveform, V1: 4V and above, V2: 1V and below.

Would this be because the signal from the injector pin on the back of the ECU being too weak?? I've also read that people had used the MSD, Tach Signal GMR Pickup (http://www.msdignition.com/product.aspx?id=4721).

Do you know is this the key to solving the issue as i'm having?

Thanks.
