Hey guess what...I just bought an STi today to add to my collection of cars!! I'm going to run the STi and the Z later and tell you guys what happens....maybe I'll even post some pictures of the cars with some chick in it too!!!

First of all, the SCCA is know for putting new cars in the wrong class on a regular basis. Second, the difference in how the STi and Z are classed is due mostly to AWD vs. RWD. They have about the same braking performance stock. They weigh about the same, have near the same power, and pull similiar skidpad and slalom numbers.
What makes them so "DIFFERENT" besides the drive wheels and the fact that one has to have a snail bolted to it to make power?

And I can usually sniff a dumb hater out pretty easy too, you are SO stupid I don't even know why I'm wasting my time on you. Just because you can only afford one car doesn't mean every other person on this board is on the same boat man, don't be so close minded. You want me to take a picture of all my keys or something? Don't make me make you look more stupid then you already are.

Your oversimplification is astounding. If I where to oversimplify the differences and similarities of these two cars, I'd say the STi is 6% faster around a road course. While I no longer own a Z I have owned both of these cars at the same time and have put +15k on both of them.

So exactly which car is misclasses? I'd really like to know your opinion since you are obviously an expert on the subject.

Yes you are right, these cars have ABOUT the same numbers. Except the STi has higher numbers in every one of the categories which happens to make a substanial difference when you add them up.

While I appreciate the comparisons, isnt this getting a little out of hand?
In my opinion they are very different cars, you cant compare an SRT-4 and a Z can you? How about a camaro and an STi?

Sofar I have they perform similar to each other with the edge being given to the STi. I'm ok with that, it doesnt mean the STi is the better car, I certainly dont think it means that the Z is inferior.
I've modded far too many cars (the STi isnt my daily either) and can appreciate the differences that make cars stand out in their own form. I didnt mean to start a flame war, i just wanted a general idea of what to expect.

I think I might keep the STi for now, and wait for an 05 model, the Tranny and feathering issues have me worried but the looks of the car keep winning me over...

dumb hater....cute.

Who ever said I could only afford ONE car??? Just a little FYI...I'm going to start shopping for a slightly used 996 911 Turbo next fall.

You can take as many "pictures" as you want...doesn't mean anything. You haven't made me look stupid. They only person that looks stupid right now is you since you see some need to constantly defend yourself. If you REALLY owned the cars in question...you could roll your eyes after reading my post...not reply and go about your business like a mature human being. Since you have replied and actually gone to the length of taking pics of some owner's manuals I'll have to conclude that you feel butthurt that someone would challege your "internet ego" and hence all the "proof"

Edit: What's really funny is you called me immature and then proceeded to start with the name calling. "Dumb hater" huh?

You called me a liar first, I was just posting the pictures because you asked me to, I don't appreciate people calling me a liar, that's all. Why can't you just face the fact that you were wrong for calling me a liar and get this over with already. I don't have an internet ego, I'm sorry if you feel that way. I can see where this is going now, no more replies from me, think whatever you want.

Oversimplification huh??? So, did I miss something and does the SCCA now take a car and run it through many rigorous tests and put hundreds of track miles on it before the class it? Yeah..that's what I thought.

So exactly which car is misclasses? I'd really like to know your opinion since you are obviously an expert on the subject.

Did I ever say I was an expert on the subject?? I don't think so. Don't put words into my mouth. I'm not going to take your bait and enter another **** fight simply because you want to change the subject. We could argue back and forth for HOURS about which car is faster around a road course...and blah blah blah. It won't get us ANYWHERE. All I'm trying to say is that the two cars are VERY closely matched in handling, acceleration and braking, and thus claiming one will always be faster around a race track and even sticking a number on the percent faster it would be is ludacris. It's going to be a toss up...and it will depend on the track and the conditions to determine which car is quicker a given day. Neither you or I has the resources to set up a test that would pit these two cars with the same skill of driver against each other on the same day and thus neither of us can PROVE anything.

Yes you are right, these cars have ABOUT the same numbers. Except the STi has higher numbers in every one of the categories which happens to make a substanial difference when you add them up.
Two of those numbers (braking distance and curb weight) while being higher for the STi are not exactly more advantagous.

The fact is neither you nor I can "prove" anything on the internet and thus all this banter back and forth is basically useless. Have a nice day!

I don't even know why people defend other cars on this board. Non biased opinions are always welcome, but most of these threads serve no purpose. Listen, this is a 350z messageboard (just in case you short bus riders were unaware). Of course most of the people are going to recommend a Z over an STi. Alot of us have test driven the STi/EVO/G35/etc etc. Most of the people here chose either the 350Z or the G35c.

The 350Z wins here. Those of you with an STi/EVO, leave that talk for another board. I'm not saying you're wrong, or unwelcome here, i'm simply letting you know you're wasting your time

Just test drive the Z and see which one you like better. On another note, if you happen to test drive a Z, you may notice the Z might "feel" slower than your STi. It's probably because of our smoother powerband and the way throttle input is controlled. You step on the gas 20% and you'll get 20% engine power which is pretty cool.

Also, please stop the Z vs. STi arguments... they're both awesome cars

Yes, that is off-putting to alot of people. They compare the feel of the Z to the feel of the STi, and assume the Z is a slug. Although the STi is faster than the Z, it does feel alot faster than it actually is. Like Krazy-sK said, it's because of the smoother power curve.

I also agree, they are both great cars. However, I couldn't own both. I'd have to own one car that could do the job of both, if I could pick. I guess i'm a minimalist in that sense :P

you can compare all of those cars. the srt4 is faster than the z, the sti is faster than the z, the evo is faster than the z. just accept it, get used to it, and enjoy the styling of your zs.

the SRT-4 is NOT faster than a Z stock for stock dude....take a look at my sig and show me a BONE STOCK SRT-4 that has run quicker...it is definitely a driver's race...but you can't say that hand's down the SRT-4 is a quicker car.

Furthermore...SRT-4s, while trapping similar to a Z in the 1/4 mile, trap 2-3 mph higher in the 1/8 mile...and they only pick up 18-19 mph on the top end....my Z picks up 22-23mph on the top end....that's some top end ownage right there...

I won't even go into the Evo and STi arguements as they have been beat to ****. Anyone that says that any of these three cars is definitely faster than the others needs a reality check.

The SRT-4 is not faster than the Z. The EVO and STi on the other hand when compared to the Z, are all very similar in performance. It's probably pretty hard to actually say that X car is faster than X just because their performance numbers are so close and the fact that we always hear about Z's beating STi's/EVO's as well as EVO/STi's beating Z's.

Some people forget that alot of guys that race from a 5mph roll stay head to head with the STis/EVOs. I have heard that from a few different sources here on the board.
