Just yesterday I decided to play chicken with the gas gauge. It said --- DTE and the gauge was lined up with the E line but I had only gone 300 miles (mostly city).
Call me a wimp because at 350 miles I folded like a cheap chair and pulled in, only to find 17.5 is all it would take.
So my DTE claims empty with almost five gallons in the tank.

Do you realize what kind of mental frustration this will cause me on the long trips? I'll be on 5 or 101 in the middle of nowhere. The ---DTE will come on and I will look up to see a sign "Gas one mile, next gas 80 miles" (or even worse, home in 70 miles). Then for the next 45 seconds I think "stop and kill my time or go and worry about it for the next fifty minutes." Go, stop, go stop... and knowing me forty minutes later the gas station they were referring to is way off the highway, in the middle on nowhere and cost $3.20 a gallon for the cheap stuff.

Why don't I ever stop the first time?

Chris
