Default Rear Strut Brace Size

Just wondering why the rear strut brace needs to be as large as it is? Seeing the new front strut brace (quite small) why do you think they were not able to make the back brace smaller?

i have a feeling that the designers made it that big on purpose. so you can see it better from the outside, and so it's more prominent. so no, it really necessarily doesn't have to be that big, but it is...another example of function follows form.

I'll bet you could make it a lot smaller, but geez, how many complaints have we already had about the "wimpy" rear windshield wiper?

I agree. While the brace is functional, I think much of the size is purely for design. It was a major part of the concept vehicle and I'm glad it got carried over onto the production model. Sure, it may shrink the trunk space, but nobody is buying the Z so they can transport big screen TV's. Supposedly, golf clubs will fit, although reports on that have been conflicting.

I too have mixed feels about the size. But, after feeling the effect of stiffening the rear end of my current hatchback (by installing a roll cage) I'd say we are going to have serious fun driving the Z through the twisties. The trade-off in storage space will be worth it. It is after all meant to be a true sports car.

man that strut brace is going to look awesome. it's the next best thing to looking at a ferrari engine below the rear glass of the 360 modena. i can't wait to see the 350 in person, looking in the back glass, and seeing a huge "z" on a strut brace. i do wish the whole thing was made of stainless steel like the concept, but can't get everything...

heavy duty lifting will be for my rsx...haha...once i get to ordering my 350

As large as it is, maybe we could fashion an internal antennae to it and eliminate the remote control look of the existing one. Ha, Ha

That's a good one, it does kinda look like a remote controlled cars antenna.

i support nissan on this one, i say they have some good ideas about the strut bar. And as some of u are complainting, there aren't many people who's trying to add a big sub that will be big enough that the bar will block it, so i think nissan had made some good choice on us, the normal group.(remember that z isn't design for u to transport things or to add a bunch of stuff in the trunk)
