Who's waited the longest?

Ordered 1/23 and still no VIN. In my opinion, Nissan has not handled this pre-order process very well. I think the size of the dealer (volume) played a factor in when the dealer could fax orders in to the factory. If you ordered through a low volume dealer, your screwed. That's my theory anyway

Have you guys been given any indication as to why it is taking extra long?

I'm getting tired of seeing all these Z's for sale when I can't even take ownership of my 8 month pre-order. I'm sure if I'd ordered CS Track model I'd have it by now. Seems that 80% of all pre-ordered Z's are CS (Chrome Silver).
Wow - I don't feel as bad after reading this thread. Ordered 5/15 - delivery date is late October or early November. No pre-order packets (cards & CD) or VIN although I have a "W" order number.

1 - All of the orders made between 1/15 and 4/15 were batched together as one order to the plant, and the plant decided the sequence of cars to be built
2 - Larger volume dealers got more cars, faster, probably because of efficiencies in the order fulfillment process. It's easier to build and transport 5 cars to one dealer than one car each to 5 dealers.
3 - Nissan did not attempt to sequence the cars by order date and never made any claims to do so. Thet only promised that pre-ordered cars would be built and delivered before anyone else could order/buy a Z.
Now I have been as unhappy (and loud about it) as anyone here, but it did help me some to at least understand the process used. Nissan remains in the business of making money, and production and distribution efficiencies are large levers for them. I can't really fault them, but I can certainly wish they had done it another way.

Seriously, after watching the development of the Z, I put down a deposit in January 2001. After looking at the design specs I knew that this was the car for me and backed it up with a cool grand! The dealer that I am working with is the largest Nissan dealer in the Denver, CO area.
Unfortunately, I'm still waiting, but a VIN has been assigned to my Redline Track 6sp. Expected delivery date is 10/15/02.
While I understand that the orders could not be made prior to 1/15/02, is there anyone else who put signed a contract and put down a deposit BEFORE me!?
