After watching someone (in a video clip) drive the Z around for lyke 7 minutes and talking about it's good and bad, I listened to the engine and it sounded super whiny to me. And no, it was not the feathering, I only heard the sound whenever he reved the engine pretty fast.

Do you guys like this? Is this the normal sound of the engine?

It was done by Sport Z Magazine, but i bet all z's have this sound.

Have you guys heard the rx-8's rotorary engines？　Oh my god, those sound soooooo nice when they go up to the 6-8k rpms. It's like a whistling sound, except you love it.

 

First, video sound is only as good as the mic that is recording it and the speakers playing it. A camcorder recording played on PC speakers will not be very accurate.

Second, if you saw the vid on sport-z's site, are you sure you wern't watching a video of a supercharged Z? They have LOTS of whine.

Third. I have heard an RX-8 motor, and it is amusing, but I wouldn't call it pleasing. The Z however, is only surpassed by a V12 Ferrarri in sound (at least thats how I feel about my S-Tune equipped car).

Don't judge by a recording of unknown fidelity

 

The Z has the right sounds for sports car. The intake, exhaust, and even the gear whine are pleasing to me.

 

DOES the criticism and bitching EVER STOP?! The Z actually has an exceptional reputation for its engine whine and exhaust note.

 

Im ok with the crappy stock radio since Nissan did such a good job on the exhaust note. I turn the radio off, roll down the windows and gun it.

 

Engine noise, the gears. I love it.
I`m with BENJ-AMG. I turn off the stereo when I`m on the twisty back roads just to hear the motor

 

Its a blast huh? Luckily, I live right on the edge of some really good rural roads in TN. On days off, I can hit twisties for hours

Depends on your definition of whiny. If you're in first gear and you let the car slow down without the break, you can hear tranny whine (as it is winding down). That's what I thought he was talking about.

rx8 sounds like a swarm of angry bees. you lost all credability when you said that sounded good. a straight pipe 60's muscle car is the epitomy of sexy exhaust, or a exotic. but though the Z is nothing like either, the rx8 couldnt be further.

by the way, mics dont pick up the bass in the exhaust, all they get is the whine.

Whoever said the Z's engine doesnt sound good needs a headcheck. And personally, I dont care if the RX8 sounded like an Ferrari ENZO coming down the road. It's slow as ***** and ugly
