clutch softening up?
i just hit around 5k on my car, and i sat in my friends base model yesterday with 6k miles on it and his clutch feels quite a bit stiffer than mine...
i dont get it... i dont burn my clutch much at all... the only thing i can think of is that i double clutch my downshifts, but would that cause my clutch to soften up a lot?
just wondering, because i love a stiff clutch feeling... anyone else experience this?
usually around how many miles should you get your clutch replaced?
how much does a good aftermarket clutch run?
thanks guys

Just turned over 1900 miles on my 04 - the clutch was VERY stiff when I first bought it. I have had several stick stifts ver the years - and never had the problem adjusting to them as I had in this car. Just in the past 2 to 3 hundred miles that shifting has become easy/comfortable.
Has everyone experienced some of this?? - is it associated with the 6 speed?? It has me puzzled. When I go in for the oil change next month will talk with the service manager regarding this.

yeah... since i was so used to the stiff clutch when i first got the car, its really weird when i shift now because i gotta watch how i release the clutch with it so soft compared to before...
anyone else experiece this?

I test drove a base model with a very stiff clutch...
I was happy that the Enthu model I ended up buying has a much more leg friendly feel to it...
So perhaps some are just coming off stiffer, or they just take a little getting used to...

I first test drove a used 350z before buying a new Z roadster. The used Z had a softer clutch. Mine was a lot stiffer. Now after 1000 miles, it's softened up a bit. Either I got used to it, or maybe it got broken in....
After the last 3 replys I rest assured that this is often a noticable problem - the stiffness of the clutch in a new Z. I was, like some of you, concerned that I somehow was damaging the clutch when it was being difficult to shift in the earlier mileage. One thing I do notice - perhaps you would give me some input - I car idles at aprrox 900 rpm - is this high ? or normal? It it were idling too high it seems it could cause difficulties in shifting - especially with a newer clutch.

I noticed the same exact thing this week on my 04 (I have like 3200 miles now). The car finally drives without being too grabby. And I usually baby the clutch, but I remember thinking that this was the hardest stick I ever drove because the clutch was so damn sensitive. Now its getting more tame thankfully!!
