Default Cheap A$$ Front Windshield

Ok... is it just me or is this front windshield not up to par?

i have 3 other cars and ive owned another that got totalled and NONE of them have cracked.... my honda windshield has chips from driving down the highway every day, my truck has a almost perfect windshield. and my mazda has a perfect windshield...

this thing is shitty! it has chips all over.. it got a decent little chip in the corner... i sprayed some water on it for a car wash on a moderately warm day and BAM crack right across it.... what the ****... ok im done ranting but this car is pissing me off.

I woke up this morning to find a 10" crack across my windshield. I really haven't figured out how it happened since there seems to be some sort of chip behind the windshield wiper. Is the sky raining rocks now?

mods shouldnt this kind of thing be moved to the repair forum? since i'm a happy z owner i guess i dislike seeing the very frequent complaining about technical issues in here while looking for 'enthusiast' type posts about the z...if i start having troubles i can go to the repair forum...just a thought. no flame intended.

I would assume that most Japanese auto manufacturers would be using the same glass...

Anyone suggest an aftermarket replacement? Is SafeLite glass decent?

I called and made an appt with SafeLite since my insurance company (USAA) uses them. I'm not making a claim since the cost is only $265 installed; made an appt for this Saturday.

buyer beware...might just have been due to my local installers being idiots, but Safelight replaced the windshield on my integra, lost and/or broke several of the surrounding plastic pieces of the windshield (the big plastic thingamajig under the wipers). Some pieces like rubber mouldings were removed and never reinstalled due to what i can only assume was sheer laziness. I ended up having to spend 200 bucks out of my own pocket to get the parts replaced through acura. Safelight insisted the parts were already broken. oh they also cut my dashboard with what appears to have been a razor blade also...which of course they denied also.

Well, being that my car is relatively new (new enough that they won't come out to your house and do it) and I'm taking it to their shop, I'll keep an eye on them. But thanks for the heads-up.

Yeah I have 3 cracks/chips on my windshield. I was going to replace it after 2 cracks, but figured it would only happen again and it did, so I just saved myself another $256 plus tax. I can see out of it fine, they're annoyances really so I can live with it.

Zeroday I had the same problem. Folks wherever you get your windshield repaired, please look at the rubber moldings REALLY carefully...few places actually do them right!

Phew.... I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one who suffers from a Swiss Cheese'd Front windsheild.... Fortunately tho, I don't have any *knockonwood* cracks, just abunch of tiny chips.

wah wah wah.. Its a windshield. Just because you happen to have yours cracked does not mean you can blame it on the 350Z. Stop jumping on the complaining band wagon. What is it with people on this site? Atleast the feathering comments have lessoned to only maybe 5 times a day.

Is your truck lowered? if not, then that's why its almost perfect... mazda what? Our Z's are low and therefore, more rocks will be hittin it...

its also the angle of the windshield. i gotta a pretty large crack that covers the middle of the entire windshield. i figure i'll just leave it until the crack reaches an edge.

doesn't insurance cover it for you guys, make sure through them, because i know most states cover glass for free, just get a claim number and call up the local glass provider and boom you get a new windshield, i've already got 2

I also had the a mysterious 9" crack appear in my windshield over night while untouched in my garage. I replaced mine through SafeLite as well for about $275. Most insurance covers glass for free when it can be repaired. If you can't repair then a replacement will typically fall under collision then you have to deal with whatever your deductible is. Mine was $500 so there was no need to make a claim since the $275 is all out of pocket. I was pleased with the work SafeLite did here in Dallas.

The guys there told me its all about the angle of the glass and height of the car. They told me that tempered glass is tempered glass and there is really not that much difference between brands. I don't know is this is true or not, but thought it would be worth passing along.
