Definitly do not drive in the snow on stock potenzas...The first time I drove in snow on the stock tires I left from my house to go back to school(about a 2 hr drive) and it was raining when i left my house. About 10 mins from school it was near blizzard conditions and i drove about 10-15miles at 50-55mph in these conditons and thought i was fine. Got to school, at the light to turn in i slowed to about 5-10mph and then when i went to completely stop, all traction just dissapeared and i slid right into a minivan that was in front of me at the light. DO NOT DRIVE IN THE SNOW ON STOCK TIRES.

The answer is yes...with snow tires. The stock Potenzas are dangerous in snow. But with Blizzaks it is very driveable in snow. As you are aware, common sense is always necessary though...you don't go out in a blizzard in 10 inches of untouched powder...but as far as sensible winter driving is concerned a properly shod Z is comparable to (maybe even a little better than) a FWD car with all-seasons.

Up here in Winnipeg, I've got snow on the ground for a good 5 months. It'd just kill me to have my $50K CDN car sit in the garage while I putt around in a $2K beater for that long.

I'm desperately hoping that a good set of winter tires will do the trick. What's everyone's experience with different tires?

Dunlop M3's are quite cheap compared to (Blizzak, Pilot Alpin, etc). Is there much difference?

I don't find it any difficult to drive my Z in the snow. With Blizzaks LM-22 winter tires and common sence it's no worse than my Mercedes ML320 SUV on all-season tires and AWD.

People are widly exoggerating winter difficulties for our Z. Probably because couple of idiots were trying to get through winter on stock SUMMER tires and crashed their cars, now everybody thinks that Z is bad in winter... Look at drivers, not car.

I live in Michigan and we have our shair of snow... The only problem is if snowfall is so intence that snow can't be cleaned in time, so two tire grooves are formed on the road in snow mess with raised bevel of frozen ice/wet snow in between. At some point having about 4 or 5" of clearance Z will start hitting it with lower lip. If it's that bad, than just stop and wait for a snow plow to pass... Usually if some really bad snowstorms expected I share SUV ride with my wife. It usually 1,3, max 3 times per winter. You can probably find some friends to give you a lift.

Having a $800 beater with bad/bald tires... I don't find it safer. Of course there is no damage to Z in case of accident, but propability of accident is way grater

I drove my Z last winter to and from work, you just have to stay on the main roads and not drive too fast. I had no problems the three times there was a lot of snow last winter.

I drove the Z all winter long and it did GREAT. I put LM-22's on the stock wheels and even used the stock sizes. Not a single problem. But then again, I've never had a fwd car in the winter, only rwd, so I'm used to it. I think the near perfect weight distro really helps in the snow. The only time I had problems was when we had a nice big snow fall all at once. It did a good 8 inches over night and I couldn't go anywhere untill the snowplows hit the road. But other than that it was great.

A little program called Photoshop.

Sorry but not really. I'm happy enough with the stock radio and not that into dumping money into my car system. I'd rather spend it on my indoor system...
