If you open the drivers side door there is a sticker/info plate that has all sorts of info. The vin #, tire pressure, etc. and the build date!!

When you get it? Are you buying new or used? If new, having to check the build date is called overly paranoid. But it's exactly where Maccamera said. It will read Build Date MM/YY.

How do you find out your build#? I have an early build date (9-02) and would be interested to find out what number Z this is

I'm looking to buy a new one as well in the near future. I found the info on what vin #s are the 2004.5 models because I wanted to make sure I got a 04.5. I went down to one of the local dealerships in S. Fla and one of the Z's that I probably would have seriously considered buying was a very low Vin, something like 100793 vs. 165xxx for all the rest.

You can distinguish between the 03, 04, 04.5 models merely by the interior of the car. No one to check Build Date/VIN.

My Car was a pre-order and was built in july 2002. The last 6 of the VIN are 001890. So.. looks like mine was # 1890 off the line.. Again, for all the new comers.. If you own a 2003 "Z" and the first digit (of the last six) of your VIN is a 0, you have the optional side curtain air bags. If it starts with a 1, you do not have the side curtain air bags. The 2004 models use a different system.

2004s use the standard Nissan system of air bag codes. The 8th digit is either:

D: driver/passenger airbags
A: D + side airbags
E: A + curtain airbags

I would be surprised if 2003s didn't follow this as well.

**rushes off to the parking garage to check his VIN number**

117738 build date 05/03. Guess that's why I don't have some of the earlier issues that the preorders had
