This topic has gone way past that. Its now young = immature. Cars has nothing to do with it anymore.

Time to lighten up the mood to where all generations can enjoy.......

I don't care how mature a kid is. You can have a 17 year old who is as mature as a 40 year old and his driving ability is still going to be minimal. There is no substitute for driving experience. Real driving experience, not playing Grand Tourismo or Need for Speed on playstaion.

i just think parents who over-indulge their children should back off a little and tell the kid "no" for once in their life...why contribute to the raising of yet another jerkoff frat guy type who feels entitled to everything, let alone contribute to your son totalling a car and being in critical condition...rich parents need a wake up call

I don't think it has nothing to do with the Z. Anyways, I hope everyone who was in this accident be well soon. This is the most important thing.

this about someone with very lil to no driving experience!.. the fact that he is 17 kinda doesnt play a role here but then againg it does.

someone older would think " wait i havent being driving that long so maybe i should take it easy" but not to say that a smart 17 wont think like this as well!

and could he have done this in a civic? yes no questions asked but does the civic have as much fun as the z? does the civic sound like the z? do you get the same rush while driving the civic as when driving the z?

chances are that anyone can still speed with any car but when you put that much power on someone that doesnt have driving experience, you are asking for trouble.

if i was a parent there is no way i would buy my kid a car like the z, thats just asking for trouble.. maybe the father hated the kid....lol

it didnt help he didnt have driving experience, and it didnt help he was drving a z! we shold just leave it at that.

Don't you know the parents got a big $$$$$$$$$$ life insurance on him...

In some cases i think they do, but definately not this much power. In my case I got a 3 year old mustang as a first car. My parents wouldnt let me get a GT because of the power, but it taught me how to drive and how to appreciate a fine car. It got me safely to where I am today with the Z at 21 with no accidents or tickets.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!
This thread started back in May, 2004!!

Obviously, the young punks vs. old farts threads are very popular, hot threads. I’ve gotten on my soapbox so many times on these types of threads since I’ve been here I think I’ll pass on this one. However, if you really care, I did post #13 on this thread last year, LOL.

Okay, I lied; I will add my .02 again.

Bottom line; regardless how “mature” a 17 year old thinks he is, he DOESN’T have the experience of a 47 year old. I’ve been driving & living for almost twice as long as this kid. You can be mature, ‘experienced’, hard working, respectful, and careful, but that does not buy you experience.

All of us old farts were your age once. My only desire for you is that you live to be my age. Then you can be an ‘old fart’ and pass on your wisdom. Unfortunately I have had too many of my friends die in auto accidents many years ago and they are not here today to enjoy life (and a Z!).

Peace to all.

I got my permit at 15 and my license at 16. I had a 5.0 mustang as my present for getting my license. The thing is that I was driving that car since I was 13 because my father wanted me to know how to handle the power, and all the issues that can happen while driving, you know things that a parent should do. I will say that I did lose it a couple of times when I was driving, I was young and you do stupid things.

BTW glad to hear your friends wife wasn't hurt too bad.

I got the Z when I was 16, on my permit. I'm 18 now. No tickets, no accidents. I didn't work(as in at a job) for the car. Scholarship money paid for all of it(and some extras, heh).

But yea I've seen a lot of kids my age do stupid things. They do stupid things with everything they have though. I just enjoy driving, nothing crazy.
