RX-8 has nothing on the Z

This forum is too entertaining!
I originally started this thread to discuss my driving impressions at Mazda RevItUp. If everyone remembers, when Mazda introduced the RX-8 they marketed it as a sportscar to dig into 350Z sales.
I don't agree that the RX-8 is a family sedan. I mean C'mon how comfortable would you be putting a car seat in the rear. The RX-8 is a sportscar with good looks and a nice engine but not on the same level as the Z in terms of power or fun factor. Just my opinion.

calling the rx8 a family sedan is a bit ridiculous. at the same time, comparing both the 8 and the z is more than fair as mazda has targetted the z themselves! would you feel better comparing it to a g coupe?
sportscars dont automatically have to have superstar hp #'s. i (and i think many others) consider the miata a sports car. how about the lotus elise. it only has 190 hp... is it not a sports car?

I test drove a RX-8 and I must say that it is a nice car. Interior quality is much better than the Z. It drove nice, but as posted earlier, it is a little low on torque.
I think my old 95 Prelude VTEC would give the RX-8 a good run. Still, if I had it to do over again, it would be hard to choose between the 8 and the Z. Mainly due to the 8's interior quality and better practicality and SUNROOF. Just my .02.

Yeah, I dont have a Z untill August, but I was having trouble deciding on what to get between the 2 for a long while. The rx-8's interior is pretty nice, and 4 seats comes in handy once in a while. But the Z looks better on the outside, and is a lot mroe fun to drive. The Z won out in the end, I dont even liek RX-8s so much no more, they look really tiny.
imo the rx-8 is an aquired taste... the looks are great to some people and to others like myself, i think its hidious... i do agree with wat ckny said... that a sports car isnt all about Hp.. its about handles, and overall performace too.. by the way who need a sunroof if u gotta drop top... muhahaha
