Default RX-8 has nothing on the Z

I went to the Mazda RevItUp event in Shea Stadium here in NYC this past Saturday. Didn't compete put did get a chance to drive the RX-8. Let me just say that driving the RX-8 makes me appreciate the Z a lot more. Yes it's a good looking car but damn it has no soul. Where is the engine in this car. Torque was non-existent and the car felt more like 190HP rather than the 237HP it supposedly has. The interior was nice but not that much better than the Z as many car magazines claim.

I've test driven many cars in the past year (G35C, AudiS4, AcuraTL, FX, 330ci) and they just don't have the spirit of the Z.

Long live the Z!

i went to rev it up at FedEx stadium, Rx8's low end torque was worse than their v6 mazda 6s. I guess u have to really rev that thing up to get the power.

Hey yiaquemini,
Did the rev it up you went to feel like an EVO/STI convention? I did not see one 350Z at the one here in NY. Hell of a car show though. A lot of C6's, M3's and mustangs. You could tell that the majority of the people there were car enthusiasts.

Be sure to post your findings on rx8club.com. A bunch of them will tell you that you're all wrong and at the Z is crap... yada yada.... I don't feel the 8 is crap as it is quieter, has a smoother ride and has a higher quality interior to me, but it's definitely significantly slower.

You can't compare the two. Why do people keep bringing up the RX-8 in this formum.

RX-8 is a fmaily sedan ( yes thats its catagory for safety)
350Z is a sports car

How can you compare the two?

At least talk about non family cars here.

Why do you consider the RX-8 a family car? Do you all so consider a Z28 ,Trans-Am & Mustang one as well? They have a back seat. Or is it because it kinda as four doors Now don't get me wrong I love both the Z & 8 and beleive they do what they were designed to do very well I just don't understand were you get " Famliy car" from.

Look at the RX8, the lack of torque and power, the doors, the design, clearly a family car. I don't think many will mistake it for a Porsche, albeit many think my Z is a Porsche. In terms of performance and handling there is simpy no comparision between the RX and the Z. Another sign the RX8 is a family car regardless of the Mazda ads. On the other hand the Mustand, specifically Cobra and other American cars you mentioned simply go like hell. Before buying my Z I tried out a used Mustang Cobra and it went like H--- in a straight line. However, the Z was much mre fun to drive.

There are also numerous concerns regardig the engineering of the Mazda RX8, aside from the vastly overrated initial HP claims.

The Z and RX8 are simply very different and I will take the Z over a family car anytime.

rx8 and z are both awesome cars. the comment about rx8 being a family *sedan* (whether originating from bs or from an actual safety report) is idiotic. i guess all extended cab trucks are sedans too . not disputing the z is fast4r though.

I my self have owned many "Sports Cars" Trans-Ams, Mustangs and have much time in both the Z and RX-8, but to call the RX-8 a family car just because it doesn't have the power that the Z has just doesn't add up, you also said that" all American cars can go to hell" I not so sure about that statment ethier my LS1 would eat most any Z alive and come back for more in BONE STOCK TRIM and to not nock the Z but I got more looks and qustions about my 8 than the Z, many people thought it was $50k car not 30K and as for the handling all I can say is the 8 you drove must of been missing the anti sway bars or some thing because even my friend who owns a Z says he loves the way 8 handles, he can never lose me in the corners from a dead stop that a nother story and to say that the Z is more fun to drive is just your opinion. Hey but I still love the Z would happly own it two if I could afford it

The RX-8 isn't a bad car but I agree, it just didn't have the guts that the Z has. Sure the interior may be dolled up a little more and the ride may be a bit softer, but I think there are reasons for all of that. I really believe the 8 is geared more towards younger men who have just started a family but don't want to give up the sports car for a mini van yet. My guess is that mazda incorporated the rear doors to make it a bit easier to sell the wife on the idea. The husbund still feels like he is getting a sports car, but he still has a chance of convincing the other half that it is just like a sedan.

The 8 is not as slow as you thank, Mazda did make a mistake on the horse power rating do to the fact the PCU was reflashed for U.S. emissions laws. The best 1/4 mile run I'v had was 14.3 @ 95mph all stock. Canzoomer offers a PCU upgrade that corrects this problem and reflashing the PCU to give back the power the 8 is missing, I'v heard it has lowerd 1/4 times by .3-.5, I will now soon enough. I did not join this web sight to **** any Z owners off I love the Z allmost as much as most of yall do. Just couldn't stand to here the 8 called a family car

The e.t. is ok, but that weak a$$ trap speed is pathetic for a "sports car" now-a-days. I trapped 95mph in a bone stck 1.8T GTI and that things a shoe box!
