Default march motor trend tests s2000 vs z vs rx-8

i don't want to ruin the suspense for those of you that haven't read this yet, but the z got second and the rx-8 got first. i just want to say that it always surprises me that different people can disagree about so many things. i almost bought an s2000 and still love to drive them, so i was first surprised that it got 3rd. i also have test driven the rx-8 and was highly disapointed. it felt very sluggish to me, and my friend i was with asked me after the test drive, "why didn't you get on it? i wanted to see what it would do." i said, "it was floored the whole time". it does have a very nice interior though and seemed solid and very smooth. more fun to drive though, not a chance. i also want to say that the seats in the z are my favorite and none fit me as well. motor trend committed that the others were better. another interesting note is that the z ran a 13.77 in the 1/4. wow, thats impressive.

i know everyone has different criteria that they are looking for in a car and if space and practicality are high on the list the rx-8 is for you. but, i was surprised the rx-8 was able to impress the authors of motor trend as a performer. they must have felt something i didn't.

yeah, well screw motor trend, they also said the track model has a different suspension, and if its too harsh, get a touring or performance.

Idiots.

Yeah I was very surprised by that article. I almost stopped reading it after they talked about the different suspension on the Track model. I wanted to see how far off their other information was though.

I lost all respect for Motor Trend after reading it.

i read that article last night.

interestingly, in the article, the z and s2000 were almost identical in all the numbers (acceleration, stopping distance, 0-whatever, turning g's, pounds per horsepower, etc), with the rx-8 behind both on almost every single thing (which would have made me think it was going to end up 3rd if i didn't know this was motor trend). they also claimed the track had updated suspension, that supposedly explains why the z did better here than in their previous tests.

motor trend is utter drivel. i guess the z had it's debut day when everyone was praising it, now it's time to kiss the azz of the newest guy to make the advertisers happy.
