Default Secret Trunk Latch Release?

I only say secret because I was not told about it when I bought the car and searched this site and saw no mention. So if this is old news, forgive me but I thought the people in line would want to know.

Under the rear strut bar is a pull ring that releases the hatch. Nothing to exciting but neat to find something new a month later. It must be a safety item because it is impossible to get to IMO.

It's to escape the car if you lose power...
Due to the auto window feature- you would break the glass if you opened the door and it didn't go down 10mm or whatever.

This way you can pop the hatch and get out.

I think this is an anti-Soprano's Federal requirement . Inside trunk releases have been required for a year or so now. Strange to put it in a hatchback, though.

There is also an outside release above the rear license plate. If you put your finger on a rubber pad and push it up the hatch will open. The salesman also told me about this trunck release as well as the one under the rear strut.

I've heard that that's just in case children accedently trap themselves while playing in the trunk.
