Default Missing rubber backing off gas pedal?

Earlier this week we had a rather short discussion about the thin aluminum pedals with rubber backing. As I was washing my car today, I laughed a little at the comments when the gas pedal caught my eye....

Where is the rubber backing for this pedal? The clutch and brake both have rubber backing. Can anyone else check theirs and see if their gas pedal is the same way? Just seems funny even though I wouldn't have been able to tell a difference without seeing it.

This was done intentionally. The reason behind it, I belive was, when you are doing heal and toe and your foot slips, you would rather have it slip off the gas rather than brake.
