Ok here is my ZdayZ story:
The Dukes of Hazard
I have a few camera mounts for my car. Some mounts go in the inside of the car and some on the outside of my car. I brought all my mounts to ZdayZ to get some really nice footage to share with all of you.
I brought my suction-cup mount that attaches to any flat/smooth surface on my car. I was playing around with different locations for the mount. I did a couple of runs with the mount on my hood. Some on my front windshield and another on the rear of my car....all film shot in these locations looked great and the mount really held up well.
Here is a pic of the suction cup camera mount:
Well I get this bright idea; mount the camera "General Lee Style" (TM). You see I watched way too many episodes of the Dukes of Hazard's as a kid. I grew up, as many of you did, with the thought that jumping cars was a part of every day life driving on a highway. In fact, I always tried to convince my parents to jump across large bodies of water rather than taking the boring bridge....they never bit, I digress.
So I get this idea to mount the camera General Lee Style, which basically means mount the camera on the driver's side door looking at the front wheel so you could watch the road and the wheel turn at the same time. Neat idea huh? I sure as hell thought so.
I mount the camera on the driver's side door General Lee Style and I make a few test runs with it there at low speeds to make sure it's pretty safe and secure. Everything was looking great. From my perspective in the car, I really couldn't see the camera so I would stop every now and then to make sure the suction cups were flush against the panel of the door.
Everything is working very well and I was thinking how cool this all was. I even started calling myself Luke and had nasty sexual thoughts about my sister. * shrug *
I feel pretty confident about the mount and I start going really fast on the base of the Dragon right after the bridge (120+). I am hauling *** and I think to myself, "Luke, I bet this footage I am getting is really cool." I even let out a rather embarrassing "Coo Coo Coo"....just like Rosco.
Well what happens next is a tragedy. The base screws start coming out of the mount....one by one...until finally the final screw comes loose (no witty banter, please) and the camera comes a tumbling down (I was doing over a buck at the time). I hear a pop and look in my rear view mirror and I see the camera going in the opposite direction!
Here is a video of the Camera Falling off:

So I slow down as fast as I could and pull off to the side of the road. I leap from my car and sprint toward what I thought would be the last resting place of my trusty camera. I pick up the camera and head back to the car cringing at the thought that I am going to have to spend $500 to replace it. As I head back to my car, I look at the door where the camera was mounted.
I look on the side of my door and I see:
I get back to my cabin and as I visually inspect the camera I see this:
I notice the camera is off, even though it is still in an on position. So I turn the camera off and then back on.....presto! The camera still works great only a few nicks and scratches. * sigh of relief *
So there you have it, my camera hit the pavement at 100+ General Lee Style and lived to tell about it.

But I think the camera falling and failing against your car would have been much worse

Yep. Make plans for the next dragon. It should be bigger then this one. And also bring some motion sickness medicine also. Especially for the co pilot. My little woman almost threw chunks on my 2nd run.

SO FAR I THINK I HAVE CONTACTED 4 SPONSORS AND ORDERED SOEMTHING FROM THEM. AND I MEAN JUST FROM LOOKING AT ANOTHER Z WITH THE GOODIES ON THEIR CARS. SO NEXT YEAR ANDY LET THEM KNOW WE SUPPORT THEM AS MUCH AS THEY SUPPORT US! AND YES IT WAS A Z-RIFIC WEEKEND FOR ALL THAT SHOWED UP!
This will help a lot toward getting the sponsors again next year to support the event.
