Is your car stock?

Does it happen noticably at certain throttle positions or rpms?

Maybe you have a leak in your intake somewhere or maybe one of your gaskets has broken apart, unlikely, but it is a possibility, let us know what you find out..

I have the same thing! I only get at high speeds though.
Nowadays I get it around 95-100mph. Pretty loud! First time I heard it as I approached 120mph but lately it's happening
I was leaning towards the front plate or removing the exhaust air guide but I can rule out the exhaust and CAI since you're stock.

I have a high speed track day coming up and gotta solve this. Ideas people?

So Josh, you are 100% stock? You've changed NOTHING? What did you do with your front plate? Bumper holes or custom mount?

if the sound gets louder as your revs get higher...it is most likely the whistling noise that some owners are getting in their transmissions. i bought my Z back in January and it tended to do it only when it was very cold but it would go away as the car warmed up and the fluids got looser.

i went to the dealer and had them deal with it. it should be covered under warranty. took a day to get it fixed and i had my car back the next day. hope that's what it is and it's not something bigger. good luck.

Could be factory wrapping.

Check the front diffuser right under the grill. My dealership forgot to remove it, so it was wistling around 130. Took it off and did another high speed test and it was gone.

Yes completely dead stock! I do not have a front plate i took mine off.

What exactly was wrong with the tranny that caused it to whistle? I guess that could defintly be a possability. I just wanted to know if this was a small fix or something i defintly should take to the dealership

(take it in and have the dealer look at it)

I have this whistling sound in my stock Brickyard. It only comes on whenever i press on the gas at speeds of 60MPH+. When I take my foot off the gas, it goes away. It's really loud and annoying.

Well to let everyone know, I too have this problem. I have checked and rechecked all of my connections with my Injen CAI. I have also tried to figure out what is causing the whistling noise, it only does it when I press the gas while in gear, in neutral the noise is present but not as loud. I have narrowed it down to coming from under the intake plenum. It sounds like it is in the back of the engine underneath the throttlebody. I have already checked the throttlebody itself and the vacuum hose for the intake and still the noise is there. I have also noticed that it does seem to go away with extremely warm weather, and the colder it gets, the louder and more persistent it is. So this leads me to think that it is affected with thermal expansion, possibly it may be the intake plenum itself. Also, I have never touched the intake plenum, i.e. never removed or unbolted it, so in that regard, I am still stock.

So today I ordered a new intake plenum gasket, it was like 4 bucks, but there are also two more gaskets that I could have ordered but I didn't, they are the ones that match up to the heads, they are 27 bucks a piece. I didn't order those, because if when I replace this 4 dollar gasket and check out the plenum and it does not solve the problem I will be taking the car in for the warranty to let the dealership fix the problem. I will let everyone know what I find out when I do the work to my car. Hopefully this is something that is rare to the 350Z, but it is somewhat comforting to know that other people have the same problem.

I will also post info with a how to on the ********** How To webpage

After narrowing down the possiblities, the solution will become apparent.

I have had my Brick for a year and get the same thing usually around 80+ on a windy day.

oh, thank god you're hearing it too. i thought i was going nuts.
same setup, totally stock car. i hear it sometimes in lower gears, but mostly in higher gears. it sounds like it's coming from the direction of the front right wheel, but i would not be surprised if it's the transmission.

it doesn't even have to b on a windy day for me and its ONLY when i'm on the gas, i thought it was from the wind at first but that wouldn't explain why its gone when i take my foot off the gas

No factory wrapping for me. I guess I have to check if getting off the gas or putting the clutch in has any effect with mine. I think mine's speed related though and not the tranny. I'll check out the CAI too.
Dealer's gonna laugh about whistling at 100+mph

People that are checking their CAI for this problem I highly doubt that is causing it considering i am completely stock and it happens alot. It seems to start up around 3100 rpm or so and gets louder and louder the faster you seem to go. Im thinking its a tranny problem.

Lets wait til ZXrage comes back from the dealership and lets see what they say. I dont really wanna waste a few days of not having my car for this stupd whistle but if its something serious i will defintly take it in. Thanks guys!!!

For those describing the sound at freeway speeds and related to the acceleration, could the whistling sound also be described as a high pitched whine? That's what I get and I thought it was normal, but maybe not.

I just drove 600 miles over the weekend and had plenty of time to study this sound on my car. I came to the conclusion that it always happens when the accelerator is pressed at a certain percentage of its course. Does that make sense? In other words, the sound occurs when accelerating or decelerating, but always if the peddle is at a specific point.

So are some people never getting that sound? I attributed it to loud mechanics somewhere in the transmission hitting a certain resonance speed but maybe I should talk to the dealer.
