Haha, man I'm not rich. I call myself blessed. I didn't start this thread for people to flame me...just to give honest opinions. I know you old-school guys didn't have it back then like us "spoiled" teens have it today. TRUST ME, I'm NOT spoiled, I have to WORK for what I want. I drive the '93 Explorer, and its POS, so no flaming...OH, and the funny thing is... my aunt lives right across the street from us haha...
"You think you Z me? No you don't!"

Seems to me you just ought to drive your dad's pickup until the Z is available. Why buy another car (and likely loose monry) for 6 months.

By the way, when you get the Z, spend lots of time learning how to control the power before you start getting a lead foot. Lots of young, and old for that matter, guys are doing really stupid stuff.

One thing to think about now is this:
If you save as much money now as possible, you'll have lots of money for downpayment, and maybe even some Mods.

Get yourself something good and safe if possible (Volvo!) and do your best to learn how to be a good driver. That way, once you get the Z you can handle it and won't wreck it up in a weeks like some other younger drivers have recently.

As far as driving tips, the best advice for an Alabama driver is have lots of space between you and the next car. In Alabama, turn signals are generally not used, and brake lights indicate "I'm turning in right here, right now!" No matter how good your brakes are, put lots of distance between you and the next guy. Don't forget this at stoplights too. If someone rear ends you and you are too close to teh car in front, you will hit the car in front of you and you are at fault for hitting that car!!

Hope this helps!

Hey,

There's not a single one of us that wouldn't have accepted a Z when we were 16 if it was offered. I know this because I got one at 17. That was fourteen years ago and I'm on my fourth Z since then. The first one was a gift and the last three were on me. If a guy's parents have the means to provide him with a nice set of wheels, good for him. One thing kid, you should resolve to make all the insurance, repairs, gas, mods, and maintainance on your own dime, I promise you'll appreciate this gift and take much greater care of it. (Driving the POS will also help.) Good luck and have fun but please don't let us hear about some kid driving around Alabama like an a-hole. It makes us all look bad.

Hey guys, I'm just having fun, I'm not flaming. Like I said, the stereotypes don't apply to everybody. It's just funny to hear comments like Southern350Z made about a teenager not being sure about wanting a Lexus. It's a real different world from when I grew up. I swore when I was a teenager that I wouldn't be one of those "d!ckhead adults" who gave teenagers a hard time. For the most part, I live up to that, but every now and again, someone just comes along and epitomizes the spoiled stereotype and I can't help myself, but then I gave 'em **** when I was a teenager, too, so I guess that's fair.
