Default marble like sound

I was in neutral (6MT) with the windows down when I noticed a marble like sound coming from under the car, yet whenever I would depress the clutch pedal the sound disappeared? Any ideas as to what this could be? I have over 800 miles on the car and this sound just started.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure that's the infamous Z synchro whine.

rpgonzalez and I just noticed it on his 350Z last night. It sounds identical to his 280Z.

Talk about "Z DNA"...

could by your muffler bearings

seriously, it might be the throw out bearing. When you press the clutch pedal you put pressure against the bearing and take out any freeplay.

Default thanks

The throw out bearing was something that entered my mind too, I guess that's why they have warrantees. I'm due for an oil change soon, I will have them check it out.

Myself and about three other people have already asked this question. It's more than likely the throwout bearing and I've been assured that it is COMPLETELY NORMAL. That's what I've been told and that's what I'll go by.

This site REALLY needs a FAQ thread with answers to these kinds of common questions. If it were already in existence, I would have never had to ask the question and neither would you.

Shake you head vigorously left-to-right for 5 minutes, then up-and-down for five minutes, then repeat......

That should put all your marbles back in place.......

Sorry, I couldn't resist!!!!!

I drove for the first time today, and I didn't notice any sort of gear whine.

But I do notice this knocking sound in the tranny when the car is about to die out... sounds normal to me. (no grind though)

Man.. i really need to spend more time with this baby. I'm not used to how she wants to be "handled." HOpe i'm worthy.... and i hope i don't get rejected.

I would think they weren't real New Yawkers if they didn't rip me.
They would have to be from some place like New Joisey. Just Kidding ,really!

Not to worry, you can fix those with a bucket of steam.

Seriously though, I don't think a throw-out bearing (and that's exactly what I think it is) should rattle with only 800 miles on it. But they will rattle with wear and loss of lubricant. Check with dealer to make sure.

It's not the throw-out bearing, as has been discussed earlier. It's the gears and syncros (nizl and rp are right), and it's completely normal.

I had a Nissan engineer and a 3rd party mechanic look at this, and they both said it was a normal transmission noise.

I can't believe someone just compared a Harley to a Japanese sports car! Hahahahahaha.

Do you have to tighten all of the bolts on the Z every 100 miles?

First thing I thought of when I read the description was also the throw-out bearing.

Default Getting it checked on Thursday

The sound is now more of a whirring sound. It increases with the revving of the engine and disappears with the depressing of the clutch. Does the tranny spin while in neutral?
Doesn't appear to have any effect on driveability of the car.
If it is the throw out bearing I would think that it would have to be replaced?!
Does anyone know of TSB's dealing with the throw out bearing or the trannys on the 350Z?

Ok look. Hopefully this will be the last time anyone says anything about this... This is normal, its called a TRANSMISSION NOISE. Its called, this car comes in under 30k with almost 300 hp. You want little rubber parts here, and insulation here and this and that, then go buy a BMW and have everything be all silent for you.

YES, the tranny spins in neutral. The sound you hear, is the sound of a transmission that is firmly and 100% conneted to the car with no BS in between. Push the clutch in, and viola, no sound. Pushing the clurtch in *typically* makes it so that the tranny stops spinning.

The tranny is built for MUY power, and is not a mini tranny like youll find in a civic or integra. Its like a TRUCK tranny....anyway, Im tired of typing...

Default I appreciate Amigo

Muchas Gracias Amigo,
While I have been driving for nearly 40 years there are lots of things i don't know about cars and trannys. This sound is not one I have heard before thus the questions. I checked for similar posts and found nothing that sounded like my concern.
Once again,
Muchas Gracias!
