how popular is the Z/G in japan
I always check for japan track races. Its usually the s2k, rx-8, rx-7,wrx,sti,evo racing. How come there is never the Z or G. I've only seen maybe 3 vids of th G/Z.
Is the Z/G not too race cars? I mean they sure seem to have to power and the weight balance and handling is not too shabby. Is it because of the price range the car is never compared to the others or simply because its a v6.
Lastly the most important thing that brought my wondering if japan is accepting the Z/G is because the aftermarket parts for it seems so small compared to the rest. Yes given the Z has only been out for 2 years? I would have expected some better mods out for our cars than the ones already avaiable. After all, the Z has a lengendary history.

in the week i spent in tokyo (in march), i counted one 350z and one g35c (i'm calling these cars by their american names). in the same time, i spotted 17 skylines. i didn't count evos and others, but i definitely saw more of those. i'm guessing they're not selling so well there. i didn't see almost any older-model z cars either whereas i see lots of these here (u.s.).

FALSE - i'm guessing they're not selling so well there.
The Zs are very popular here, maybe you're looking in places like Naruto or Machida (ie. countryside).
There are plenty of 350z aftermarket parts to be sought, TTs are also available. The Z won its respective racing category last time, the same VQ engine in the Skyline GTR also won.
So the Zs are doing pretty well here.

The Z is still new compared to the R34 and most of the EVOs, but it's hard to tell unless you se exact sales numbers compared to other cars. I was there for a while last year and saw a few, but I was in a "rural" area too. Registration and tax is somewhat based on engine displacement as well, given the Z is over 3.0L that might have something to do with it too. Considering 60% of the aftermarket stuff I see for the Z comes from Japanese shops, I don't think it's doing that bad.
