The way I see it is that when a car like that is handed to you the level of appreciation is not near as high as if you spent your own money on it. The chances of you behaving recklessly in it jump exponentially. If you wreck then daddy will just fork out the cash to fix it, right. Hopefully you dont kill anybody in the process. I'm sure you are going to tell me you are the exception though.
My parents got my first car for me also. 86 Corolla. Parents should help their kids get started in life. I totally believe that.
Parents that hand their kid a sports car are completely irresponsible and are more worried about being the cool parents with their kid than they are that very kids life.
When I was a kid I begged for a sports car to be handed to me. It didn't happen, thankfully.

My son saved and BOUGHT his first car at 17 3/4 with his own money....I wasnt very excited, but what ya gonna do, he saved. 1995 240 SX. Well needless to say 6 months later 2 tickets, and 2 wrecks later, its sitting in my driveway. Even if they buy themselves, some still dont respect that a speeding car driven recklessly, is just as dangerous as a loaded hand gun in a kids hand.

46 F mother of two. Bought my Z Aug 2008. Wanted one since they came out, but priorities, and funds. I am not at all ashamed that I had to wait, work hard, to get what I want. Now I get to enjoy ! I will own this car for as long as I wish/or dont wish...... you young ones usually are not so lucky.
Thats the best part about being grown up and mature.... Its my decision !
