I'm not sure what you mean by percentage. Are you going just by # of models faster than Z / # of total car models? Or are you going by total population of vehicles (or cars)?
If you're going by the latter, I'd say the Z is probably faster than at least 98% of vehicles (and I'd guess at least 95% of all cars) on the road in the US. The thing is that sports cars and other performance cars including the Z don't sell all that well.
Take a look at these supporting pages:

In the US, YTD, Nissan has sold 14,469 350Zs. The top selling car was the Camry which has sold 176,022 YTD. Top selling vehicle, the Ford F series truck has sold 358,034 YTD. In the US, YTD, all the automakers combined have sold 3,170,086 cars or 6,963,091 vehicles.
Take a look at how many M3s, Evos and Corvettes have been sold. Subaru is small player and unfortunately doesn't list a breakdown by model in their sales report (would need to see WRX STi sales).

(since I can't edit my msg anymore)
By faster, I'm defining it in terms of 1/4 mile time. Let's not talk about governed or drag limited or RPM limited top speed nor lap times on a given track.

There will always be cars faster than what you own, otherwise the appeal of newer cars would be lessened. if speed is the only factor than by a bike. For me the z was the perfect balance of speed, style, relability etc...
I drove numerous cars before buying a Z including offerings from BMW, Chevy, Audi, Ford, Subaru, Mitsu, and Porsche and while they all had their strengths I do not think their is a car on the road today that compares to the Z within 25k of its price point.
And to answer your question. 15 to 20% of the cars on the road where I live are probably faster, but less than 1% of the drivers are. : )

Z is designed for overall performance and style. If 1/4 miles is the only thing that you looking at, then there are tons of car faster than Z, including Detroit muscles from 70s. If you look at overall performance, including cornering speed and suchs, then Z is way ahead of many cars. Cars like SR-T 4, camaro, trans am won't have a chance. Lets' admit it, compare to Z, EVO, WRX, these cars can't turn.
After mod, EVO and STi are very very hard to beat, even you drive $100,000+ exotic sports car.

Yup. The Z is designed for overall performance. Straight line acceleration is only a small piece of the pie in the real world. The one car I see most frequently, that is faster than the Z all around.... is the corvette. Other than that... most cars won't hang with the Z even if they are faster down the strip.

ya modded cars dont count. I remember seeing a VW R32 in european car that's making 600+HP having quarter mile times like murcielago (sp). And it only had $10k of mods i think.....

I agree mods are irrelevant. You can make any car as fast as you want as long as you have the greenbacks. The SRT4 aka Neon has a turbo charger the Z doesnt to this date. Lets even the playing field, lets add a twin turbo to the Z and see who comes up ahead. Ok so you change the mapping, add more psi, whatever so we do the same, it goes on and on. I didnt get my Z for racing. I wanted a nice looking sports car at a decent price. If I want a go fast swoosh monster by all means Ill buy one. Sorry to go off track. It would be very interesting to see Nismo incorporate a turbo into the Sentra, hmmmmm, that would be a true competitor to the Neon.

Corvette is faster, but its' more expensive. It's really hard to find a car that can beat Z in overall performance in Z's price range, besides EVO and STi. However, if you take account of appearance, refinement and interior styling, Z is the bench mark.

trans am is a tab bit faster the the z28 ...the z28 only runs high 13's...much like the Z can...mustang cobra is much faster than the trans am and z28....he is blowing a little smoke up some *** on that stuff...Z and srt4 is a drivers edge..i feel the Z is a tab bit quicker...

THe onyl thing you need to know about the SRT4 is it is front wheel drive, camaro z28 um yeah took one of those out already, so maybe the SS,took a bullit mustang, Mustang GT's are for breakfast, as for any that is BIMMER um no Z3 please maybe the M I took one of those to 120 and pulled away from him, there is really nothing stock form the same price range that can truly walk from a Z, if you are talking about quarter mile like i tell evryone who asks me to race them "what the hell does a quarter mile prove" how about 2-3- 50-300 miles that sounds like fun to me so maybe the SRT would get better gas mileage tahn me I could probaly stay on the road a bit longer than most cars

oh yeah EVO and STi are 35 grand and not 200,000 mile engines, i got my Z for 26,000 so that puts me in a whole different price range than those cars
I hate corvettes i got second in a car show because of him and his "Wa hoo club I mean corvette club" last time i checked those were forty
