Hi, just bought my Z a few weeks ago back on the East. My wife and I were visiting family there, and we had the money so I decided to pick one up and drive it all the way back to New Mexico.
Well, we get back here and I find the highest octane is 90. I would like to run a little higher, and there is an Airport that sells 108 octane for 8 bucks a gallon. would it be worth it to fill up on 90 and put in a gallon of 108, or what about those bottles of octane booster at walmart? I know that the car is fine being driven on 90 octane, but just for comfort and peace of mind, i would still like to push a little more. Thanks

I don't think it's worth it. Your Z will run fine on 90 octane. It's close enough to 91 and you will most likely not notice a difference in mileage or performance.
Besides, the Z's ECU is able to retard engine timing to accomodate fuel as low as 87 octane, so you're not damaging anything.

i though we had it bad here in cali.... highest we can get is 91....
if you want cheaper more effective alternative to octane booster u buy from walmart.... try some paint chemical called toulean (sp).... search the forums, there's plenty of discussion on octane boosters...

jeez, I would kill for some 91! The 108 octane is nice a friend of mine runs it in his old 300zx.
Yeah the money is nice. you wouldnt think being in the military would cover everything, but we're pretty well off to both be 20 yrs old.

108 octane is also know as 100LL AVGAS, in Canada anyways, and is leaded fuel. It should be coloured blue if you take a sample. LL stands for Low Lead but that's low compared to the old 130 AVGAS they sold years ago when we thought lead was the wonder fuel additive. I would think your emission control components would not like the leaded fuel very much...probably the cats would be the first to die...Here in canada 100LL is illegal for non aviation use such as highway driving and the airport fuelers should not sell it to you. I've seen some racing off road vehicles and snow machines running this fuel but I think your 350Z would be in big trouble after a few gallons...especially if you have to pass some kind of emissions testing?! I wouldn't recommend using the leaded AVGAS unless you don't care about your cats and could just gut them in the near future...I doubt you'd see much improvement in performance...you might even see decreases but that's just a guess.
