V8 vs. V6.... Wow what an accomplishment. How about a TA with a V6? No contest for the Z.

Those cars can take Supras =) If i wanted one for the speed advantage I would have gotten one already instead of my 03 350Z touring =)

Trans-Am WS6, I love that car. Its a monster allright old fashioned push-rod power. I think most of us here are a little car knowledgeable. I dont mess with Vettes, Vipers, Porsche Turbos, theyre obviously faster. I could have easily bought a used Corvette over my Z but I didnt. I wanted a nice looking, sporty car, with adequate power. I more than got what I was looking for when I took the Z off the lot. Sooo, yeah there are faster cars, but as an overall package, IMHO, that takes in a balance view there is nothing better than Z. But, one day, maybe sooner than later a new Vette will be in the driveway along with the Z.

American Muscle cars best in a straight line.
Put the two cars on a road course or auto-x, and you'll probably own.

Yeah, but who wants to be seen in Trans Am? In fact, if I had a friend who would buy a Trans Am, I'd find a new friend.

i actually raced my friends ta (non ws6) trans am and beat him by about a car length from 50-120, apparently on a highway hes not that fast. now from a stop he beat the pants off me. this was before i had the exh, header, flywheel, and safc btw.

I say bring him on. You got nothing to lose since everyone thinks and knows you won't win.

I agree with some others on here that the 350Z isn't the fastest sports car out there and never was supposed to be either. I too owned 2 older Corvette 88 and 92 with the 92 being a fast one.

The reason getting a new 350Z rather than a used 2000 & up Vette is because I like this 350Z better and I don't care about the 0-60 stuff anymore. Unless you go on a track you can't really drive over 70mph legally depend where you are in the US.

I hate to play the smart A$$, but in 1989 Pontiac had a Turbo Trans Am that used the 3.8 from the GNX ( the Grand Nationals faster cousin) They were good for mid-high 13's from the factory, and like the GN's, there are now quite a few in the 9 and 10 second range now.

-still a 3rd gen F-body though...

"Turbo" being the key word. You have to compare apples to apples. The Gran National was a sweet ride.

I say race him.

The WS6 can do the quarter in a little over 13 seconds from what I've read. If some Z's can do it in the high 13's, then all you need from him is a crappy launch or a not so fast shift and you win.

http://www.supercars.net/garages/LegendNH/4v2.html

According to that site it looks like the race wouldnt be too bad.

Lighten your load, run him with a quarter tank of gas or less, take out the spare tire stuff, and then see what happens.
