Default Stupid door dings

Well, it happened today.

Found my first ding on the passenger side door, caused by some ******** who decided to open his/her door very hard into my car while it was parked somewhere.

There's a faint vertical crease on the door, and a small 1cm diameter scratch down to the primer. I managed to cover the scratch up with touch-up paint, but it looks like that ding will be there for the rest of the car's lease. Of course, the perp responsible either didn't care, or didn't know he did it.

Just had to vent. What a pain in the butt!

I'm thinking of having a door ding removal guy appear at the next 3FiveZeroZ meet in August.

I feel your pain. Turns out the big crease right smack in the middle of my front bumper turned out to be the evil doing of my bigger sister and her neon. Although it was an accident, she also denies that she did it. But the crease on my front bumper matches a line of her car's rear bumper PERFECTY!

Oh well... hopefully I can just get it fixed.

At one time there was a place in our area where they could pop those things out - suppose it depends on the size, etc. I'm the guy who picks the parking space about 10 spaces from the closest parked car in the shopping center! Of course some time at resturants, etc you are lucky to find a spot.

Yeah, unfortunately this is one of those dings that most likely can't be popped out - it's an actual crease in the sheet metal, basically a vertical line that matches the outline of a car door perfectly.

I try to park away from everyone else whenever I go out, but at times that isn't possible, and every other time - there's some nimrod who decides to park RIGHT NEXT to you in the boonies of the parking lot.

Oh, and BTW hfm - thanks and keep me posted on the next meet, I may actually stop by to have this ding looked at!

Don't worry too much, I've been doing paintless dent removal for over 10 years, and your damage sounds like it can be fixed. Look in your phone book for a paintless dent removal company in your area and have them look at it. I wish I could help but I'm on the other coast.

That's a good idea. We had one (dent removal/BBQ meet) up here in NorCal... we had around 12-14 cars done (some with multiple dents). Our pricing from Dent Pro was:

$89.99 for the first dent (1" dent, pricing for bigger ones went up accordingly)

Each additional dent was 1/2 price.

The topper was the group buy discount of 25% off the total. And the guy guaranteed his work... so if you are not pleased, you don't have to pay. But we were pleased... rather REALLY IMPRESSED!

He took some dings out of my g/f's RSX and then one big ding out of the crease on her door.... can't even tell that anything had ever happened dcheng, besides the paint, you should probably have the ding fixed with rather ease...

Can't wait for our next PDR/BBQ meet... have a VERY minor one on the Z... and this one from a Z meet at that

Where in Virginia are you and what company are you with? My Z is fine so far but my wife's Subaru has taken a battering.

Me, no. Steve Burhans, CEO of FreshAlloy.com, yes. I met Steve a few months ago at the Thousand Oaks Nissan meet/run, a real nice guy. He can arrange for sponsors, door dent guys, among other things and I'm sure is a wealth of resources.

Just a matter of giving him a jingle since he's as much an enthusiast as the rest of us and would be more than happy to work with 3FiveZeroZ.

Hey, have you ever come to one of our meets? As much as I try, I sometimes can't recall if I've met everyone because we have such large turnouts. Why don't you come out to a meet if you have a chance. You can meet fellow libertarian Scafremon.

[Edit - how do you spell Scafremon? And, what is that, a scary French pokemon?]

I backed out of my garage and wedged a garbage can in between my car and the garage door. I have a 3" wide band of scratches completely down the length of my car. On both fenders its through the paint in a few spots, but the rest seems to be only in the clear coat. Anybody know if this could possibly be buffed out? Thanks, my car is 2 months old and it really bothers me.

If you run your fingernail down the paint, and can "feel" the scratch, you will not be able to buff it out. Sounds like you need a paintshop.

After one paint chip and two door dings (which were removed by a local ding specialist here), I finally just gave up and had some body side molding installed on my Roadster. It actually turned out better than I expected and has now been on the Z for over 8 months without a ding. Of course black is easy to match, as it would be much harder in another color.

Here's a pic:

Nothing official out there yet. If you want to start a feeler thread, I'm sure that you'll generate some interest. You could put me down on that list (that would be 2 so far).

Maybe Vince at Omega might be gracious enough to let us host the venue at his place again (read: BBQ)
