18.898 gallons of gas to fill tank today, can u beat that?

 

damn! how many miles did you go after the light went on?

Speaking of which, I think I hold the new record for best gas mileage...I reset it, and it came up "99.9 MPG", Avg Spd 75MPH...(downhill lol)..I didnt have my camera with me

16.7 is the best I have ever gotten!

To be honest I NEVER believed that we had 20 gallons. I have driven around for at least an hour with the light on before. Why does it come on when there is still 5 Gallons left

 

It definitely is annoying that the fuel gauge seems to be calibrated for a 17-18 gallon tank. It takes away the advantage of having a nice large fuel tank.

I think the best I ever got was 16.2 or so to fillup

 

a bit over 18 gallons once. you are mad lucky for not running out.

Did you check how many miles you got to that tank?

 

I once went about 12 miles after the gauge was saying 0 miles until empty (it indicates this by blinking with _ _ _ _ )

After this, I STILL could only get 18.6 gallons in and that is with some MAJOR topping off.

I have concluded that when it says Zero miles until empty, we still have at least 2 gallons left.

 

Ive driven with this _ _ _ _ for an hour and have stil never seen 17. I am going for the 19 mark this tank

 

i've filled 19.3 gallons before...

it took about 5 seconds to start the car before i left work, after that i went straight to the gas station, never going above 3500 rpm, heh.

 

What do you mean it wouldn't start.
You should have had almost a gallon left in there

 

i mean it cranked over for about 5 seconds before it finally started, like the fuel pump was starving for gas or something...

 

Damn, I thought I was going crazy. I got down to 3 miles left to empty and got to a gas station and filled up to 18.5 gl and didn't think that was right . Now I know it made me panic for nothing.

But, you must remember - the gallons til empty is computed over the whole number of miles that you have driven since you filled -and if a lot of those miles are highway - and you are now driving short drives - that really doesnt apply ! You may find yourself walking 5 miles (and back) to the closest gas station for a gallon of gas. I start thinking about filling the tank when it gets down to that last mark. I always say - it costs no more to run a car on a full tank of gas than it does an empty tank.

 

I didn't realize that is what it did. I assumed it calculated the miles until empty, minute to minute depending on what kind of driving you were doing at that time.

In other words, if it said you had 100 miles until emtpy and you were coasting along at 55 MPH and then you punched it WOT, it would sense this and adjust your miles until empty.

Does anyone know for sure?

Technically, it does. A full tank makes the car weigh more and thus the engine has to work a bit harder and therefore burns more fuel and thus costs you more.

Damn, I feel bad for your guys' cars.... You actually let your cars get that low!!?! AH! the lowest mine has ever been is 1/4th tank

I got down to 40 miles, then 39, then I kept driving and it went up to 49. The next day it was in the 50s. My conclusion is that these cars don't really need gas. It's all a big scam.
