Want a good substitue for dynomat?
A roll of the stuff is like $250 or higher.
Ice guard, yeah the stuff you put on your roof, 255' x 2' for around $70.00 in has the same thickness and same density as dynomat. The only drawback is it only come in huge rolls.

Does Dynamat help for the amateur listener? I don't really listen to music that is that heavy hitting, or that has incredible amounts of bass. Does Dynamat give any "real" improvement in music quality, or does it just keep the shakes down? Basically, is it absolutely necessary if I'm not really interested in competitions.

even the untrained ear will tell a huge difference if only for the reason of less road noise. A little of it in the doors and in the spare time area should make a considerable difference. Some even like to put in on the floor panel as well.

You'd have quite a bit of dynomat tied up in typical installation with this stuff it would only cost a couple of bucks.

Personally, I think the Z is plenty quiet already. It cruises on the freeway with no discomfort and you barely get the hear the engine. Sure, there's some tire noise, but it's really not bad.

I'm also concerned about adding weight. The Z isn't a whale, but it's not the slimmest either. Adding a sub and box is a few pounds already, does Dynamat add more?


On a side note, tried the Bose system at a volume of 18 today, and it's actually pretty good. Admitedly, I was just at a show, so my hearing is probably a little damaged...

 

Original dynamat is about 0.8 lb/sq. ft.
Dynamat Extreme is about 0.4 lb/sq. ft.

Brown Bread is also 0.4 lb/sq. ft but cheaper than Extreme (that's what I used in my car).

I used 70 sq. ft to cover my cover which came out to be about 23 some lbs. (w/o whipping out a calculator). The manufacturers of Brown Bread also have another product that has less acoustic dampening for about 0.1 lb/sq. ft.

Well, if you're installing an aftermarket system, you'll notice a big difference just because of the noise floor being lower (i.e., the base level of sound with which speakers must compete). Because of rolling noise, wind noise, etc, if you don't use some type of noise dampening material, you'll have to turn your speakers up a lot louder, and even then, frequencies from road noise will still cancel out frequencies produced by your speakers.

Nizl, are they doing your whole interior with dynomat? floors, headliner, etc?

 

I found reference in Google to an industrial supplier called McMaster-Corr, that had a range of sound dampening sheets for various applications that might be of iterest. On page "3220" of their site, they give a good overview of the various types and their specifications with links to the item for more detail. It talks about the Noise Reduction Coefficients, temperature ranges, fastening methods, etc. I don't know the company, but it was educational. Here's the URL: http://www.mcmaster.com/. I was doing a little research and it sounds like the ice guard might have granules embedded into it that could dislodge and create a little mess in the cars panels kinda like sand.

If anyone has used this product maybe than can verify it.

The RAAmmat sounds pretty good and considerably cheaper than the dynomat, especially if you want to do the job right.

 

I checked out some ice guard type stuff at home depot today.
The stuff looked similar to shingles with little granules embeded.
Looks like it would vibrate off as under normal use and be to messy for a car installation.

Anyone one seen any that is just stickem rubber membrane with out the little granules?
