Default Gas filling problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? At several places I get gas, the pump shuts off prematurely. The first time it happened I wasn't really paying attention. When I got in my car and noticed the gauge didnt read completely full, I thought it was just a fluke. Then it happened again. I'm like wtf is going on? The next time I got gas it happened again, so I forced it to take more gas, and it wasn't easy. Well today it happened again and I found the cure! If I don't put the ***** all the way into the vagina (sorry for the lack of better words), it will happily take a full tank with no problems.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have found that when I pull my rear wheel even with the pump I can get a complete fill with no problem.

In most of the stations here they have the pump handles that you can set, insert into auto and let go - they shut off automatically when the tank is filled. Always works for the Z !!

I have found that if you turn the hose trigger and all upside down and stick it in it will continue to fuel.

Nope, the pump nozzles around here are too long for our car. The gas will come out of the nozzle even if it's not in the hole at all. I figured out the solution on my own after a couple of attempts.

ragtopz: Thanks man. I guess I should have searched first because wow, this problem seems to happen to a lot of people. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I do that anyway and it doesn't affect the problem.

That's what I do. Thats why I was confused when I wasn't getting a full tank. It supposed to shut off when its full, not 3/4.

I have found that if you turn the hose trigger and all upside down and stick it in it will continue to fuel.

That's cool. I will continue to do the method I found to work, and if some day it doesn't work I may try that. But I'm almost certain the problem is just from the nozzle going too far into the hole. Pull it halfway out and the problem disappears.

Thanks for the responses...

I'm no expert, but you probably shouldn't put your ***** in your gas tank filler...

I actually had a problem with this right after I'd had the dealer's techs clean my fuel injection system, so I figured maybe they busted something. As it turns out, as I'd figured, it was some sensor within the fuel tank. The foreman at my dealership was very good about it; he called Techline, and they had a solution. It involves ordering a part (I'm guessing a replacement sensor), which was done in less than a week. I brought the car in with very little gas in the tank, and it took only a day of work at most. Give it a shot.

Put it in slowly. If it releases prematurely, remove it and wait a few minutes. Then try again. It usually works fine.

Often this occurs because the nozzle or filler pipe is too hot.

I could be wrong but I believe that some gas tank designs and filler tubes may not allow the displaced air to escape quick enough, causing the gas to shoot back up to the nozzle and
tripping it. Just my 1 1/2 cents opinion. ZRA.

You are right. Its the fumes from the gas triggering the pump. You can thank the EPA crap they designed into our cars to keep nozzle vapor at a minimum at stations that don't have the huge rubber boot to prevent leakage. The seal and filler tube is so small, the vapor kicks off the sensor in the pump early (my guess). The way I get around it is to pull out and reinsert upside down (lol). Once the fuel starts churning through the nozzle, you can twist it upright again. I usually get another gallon or so in, making the gauge go above "F". Try it. I do it every fill up thanks to past posts on this forum.
