I'm a big guy and I just barely fit. It's like trying to fit into an old pair of jeans.

I owned a Z3 so I know what to expect. The funny thing is the utter lack of good storage. There is no true glove box, and only 1 cup holder, and two small compartments. That's it no place to put my glasses.

Also the power outlet is in the same location as in the Z. (crap).

I am interested to see what's next with the Z. Might be factory turbo?? I'd like to see the Z step up to the corvette power range.

Default s2k

I was surprised how much head room there is in the s2k.
And leg room is decent, I just drop into the seat at a 90degree angle, tuck my head down then move back into the seat, then sling my legs around into the car.

I like the way there is now wasted space in the interior. The dash on the passenger side is about a foot away. At first I didn't care for the digital display but after using the digital speedo in the Z I think it's probably the way to go.

Whats your nick at s2k.com arai?

Wow!! I was sure you'd go for a Z06 before the Honda, but good luck with your choice. At least the S2000 won't be falling apart in a year.

The Z I originally ordered on January 15th still hasn't shown up, and I see posts from people who ordered as late as June who have already received their cars. I'm glad I was able to find a new track model for MSRP on the showroom floor at a nearby dealership, otherwise I' d probably be looking for something else myself.

Ack! I know I am still a noob on this forum, but seeing someone like RAI jump ship leaves me wordless :-\

On the other hand, I can appreciate what you have done RAI, and I wish you the most enjoyment you can squeeze out of your new baby :-) Don't be a stranger and stick around. We could always use a S2K owner who can give objective information to us.

I won't see my Silverstone till Dec/Jan and got really restless this weekend. Ended up going to the Porche dealer ship and test drover a Boxster s, as well as manage to find a BMW dealer ship that had a 2002 Manual M3 (Demo car previously driven by GM) that I manage to take for a spin. Till date I have still not been able to drive a 350Z yet :-\ Really want to have a hands-on session so I can do an objective comparison.

Wow! I thought for sure you'd last. But, believe me I understand what you were going through. I ordered on 3/3 and my delivery date is 10/23 so it's been over 7 a month wait. There have been several time when I comtemplated jumping ship. But, thruthfully this is the only sports car on the market worh my consideration (the price is can't get no righter). Sure there's the STOOK which I think is a great car and i'm sure you're going to love it, not my style though. Anyway, have fun with it. That car was made to be driven hard.

Don't forget about us over here!

The dealer actually let me test drive a brand new one.. Of course I read prior you gotta shift up in the 7500+ range.. so of course I did =) The car is definatly quick.. but doesn't push you back any.. even after VTEC.. I didn't notice much 'boost' with the VTEC and I was taking it up over 8k RPMs.

So it definatly didn't have that V8 blow you away.. and the convertible is what pushed me away from it (I wish the Z had a sunroof =/). But if you are happy.. sweet! I'm still waiting for my Z.. supposedly first week of nov!

The s2000 I drove is still in the showroom too.. they were supposed to be in short supply still..
Congrats.

Curiously, did you also test drive a Z prior to making your decision?

I have been on the S2000 international, and it's not near as nice as this site.

Some guy was like "good thing you ditched the Z (shutter)"

Anyway I have not been waiting only 5 months, I have been waiting 4 years (since I sold my Z3).

ZZtopp, I guess I threw you for a loop. You know the Z06 is FAST, but it's a large car. The S2000 is so tiny it's like a go-cart. I know you are a burly guy so I doubt you'd even fit, the seats are almost too tight for me.

I have a lot of faith in Honda reliability and it's one of the stiffest cars around.

As for it's lack of torque. That's a tough one. That number looks bad "on paper", but if you shift at the redline it will haul ***. In everyday driving it is a bit sedate, but it's always so light on its feet.

Thanks,

No I never been near a Z that was running.

Anyway as I said, this is not the last car I am ever going to buy. It was part impulse, part convenient (My wife), and part frustration.

I know it's magazine racing, but the S2000 and the 350Z are very close. braking distance is the same, acceleration is the same, Z is better at street start and top gear acceleration, the S2000 is better in the slalom.

I will still be here. I don't know why, but I was feeling left out with everyone else getting their cars.

I might not be as much of a post *****, but I am first and formost a Sports car lover.

I know a guy that is getting a track Z so we may trade off so I can get a feel of the VQ power.

I also know a guy that is getting a Evo VIII, so I may get to give some perspective about it.

Default advantage

You'll have an advantage with the s2k over the Z. The Z is way to easy to non intentionaly get over over the speed limit. With the S2K driving in the timid mode or miata mode you won't have that problem. If you getting busted speeding in it atleast you'll get you money's worth.

I really like the S2K board I think it's one of the best if not best boards on the net. I also like the RX-7 Rotary Forum they have stuff archived back so far some of it is actually written on parchment and rolled up on schrolls.

But for a car going into its 4th year of production they have a whole lot of data at s2k.com

I think you mentioned that you got the Sebring Silver did you go with the black or red interior?

I did test drive an S2000 last year and there was enough room (barely, I'm 6'3", 220), but my upper body felt pretty snug. I don't think I'd enjoy it for a long trip. I'm very comfortable in the Z, however, even more so than the Vette.

Either way, you can't go wrong with your choice...all the cars you were considering rank pretty damn high on the fun factor list.

I got the silverstone with black interior. The same as the Z I was waiting for.

My wife actually want to drive the S2000 (groan), she is not a VTEC type of driver, so she likes the so called miata mode.

I can't wait til my break-in is over.

Well RAI,,, im sure it was a tough dission for you. Just use the heated seats in the s2000 during your maryland winters and you will be fine.

O wait it dosnt have heated seats........damn. J/K.

But like you said you can get a new model car when they start coming out in 1-2 years.... they never stop making cars, they always have new ones coming out, even if you think you have found your ture love. Im glad you made a dission and got a car, you could have waited forever and longer to get your 350z.

Plus once they do decide to come out with a turbo 350z , the old one will be like all of the 220 h.p. 300zx's out there, while the turbos get all the looks and druel.

Good choice RAI.

Congrats on your S2000 purchase. I had no idea that an '03 was already available.

I guess this is where I should say that you made a great choice and all that other blah blah stuff, but honestly, I think you would have been happy with the 350Z as well. While I have not driven one, I am anxiously awaiting the opportunity and then I will really know.

As for now, best wishes and keep on posting.

You really know your stuff. I thought the 4.9 was a little fast. I still find it hart to believe the 5.2 sec. I mean the engine is so tiny, my VW fox had a 1.8L but only got like 88hp. My Z3 1.9L only 150hp. I mean 240hp is as much as the honda pilot SUV.

Thanks for all your kind replies(tear). I hope those of you still waiting will get your cars soon.

I'll see you on the street. Watch out the little roadster has a big heart.

I was still in limbo over a m3.. the wife was threatening physical harm if I did it

So I test drove the s2000 to make her happy (and out of curiousity). I wasn't sold on the 350z yet. I didn't like the interior that much from photos, and I couldn't get over the Audi TT roof line.. but that week we found some 350s at a local dealer. Just seeing it in person and sitting in it was enough to sway me to the 350z and forget all my pre-notions about it.

Especially around here.. the 350z will at least stand out a bit.. even after they are available en mass. 3 series are like chevys out here.. and vettes as well. I was sitting at a light 2 days ago, and had 3 vettes around me. They are everywhere.. and 323 and 325 are like 1 in 10 cars here.

M3 was also on my wifes "aproved" list.

about the M3:

1)it costs a good deal more than the Z or the S2000. I could nearly buy both of the jap cars for the price of one M3.

2) if the Z is heavy than the M3 is down right obese. Not that it isn't quick, but 3400lbs???

3)another waiting list

4)it's not a sports car it's a sports coupe.
