about the M3:

1)it costs a good deal more than the Z or the S2000. I could nearly buy both of the jap cars for the price of one M3.

2) if the Z is heavy than the M3 is down right obese. Not that it isn't quick, but 3400lbs???

3)another waiting list

4)it's not a sports car it's a sports coupe.

The cost of the M3 is what was the big friction point in my house. I was going to buy the car outright.. and the wife didn't think blowing 55k on a car was reasonable.. women.. go figure

The M3 is big.. but its got a motor to go with it. I look at it as a sports car in a coupe's clothing... considering the look is near identical to the 330ci, but over 100hp more.. plus all the other M changes..

I liked the notion of a 'luxury' sports car.. and its a 4 seater (I have kids). I was due for a 'luxury' car with sport, but the M3 proved to be too much. Hunting dealers you can find M3 cars, but of course its whats available vs ordering, etc. I think I was told 3 months if I ordered.

The 30+k car range was the compromise.. and there isn't much there today.. A Cobra, s2000, s4, or 350z were all that showed up on my radar. Cobra.. still a mustang on the inside (no luxury).. s4.. too vanilla.. s2000.. convertible and kinda tight fit.. 350z.. most promise for me. So the 350z hunt started.. and I found a pre-order backout. Now if the damn thing would just show up!

rai,

Regarding the Zcar delivery - Man, 1000s of us know how you feel. This situation is indicative of how poorly this Nissan pre-sale program has worked for Z enthusiasts. And the situation is NO COMMUNICATION. Early orders are inexplicably delayed. Late orders inexplicably show up early. And NO COMMUNICATION from Nissan. I think this is very poor performance and no wonder people get tired of waiting.

I pre-ordered on April 17th – received the black envelope on May17th and the CD package a month or so later. Since then? Zip - Nada - Nothing. We don’t know what’s going on and we’re given NO INFORMATION. No wonder people get tired of waiting.

And we see all these Zcars for sale on showroom floors and on eBay. HUH? How about deliveries for the Z enthusiasts – the cars we ordered? How about some INFORMATION? HUH? No wonder people get tired of waiting.

I’ve watched as many people with January, February, and March pre-orders have seen those ordering in May and June receive their cars first. HUH? What gives? And with no explanation and NO COMMUNICATION from Nissan? No wonder people get tired of waiting.

And now this: My nearest Nissan dealer is newly built – they weren’t even open prior to the end of the pre-order program in June. (So, I pre-ordered from a more distant dealer.) This new dealer previously told me their Zcars wouldn’t be delivered until December at the earliest since they missed the pre-order deadline. Well now, they have TWO Zcars on the floor – one for their first “pre-order” customer and one for the floor. I’m sorry – I have to again say HUH? Again NO COMMUNICATION from Nissan.

Where the hell is rai’s car? Where the hell is MY car. Where are ALL the pre-ordered cars? Especially while other cars are being delivered? Are we to just sit patiently waiting till November 30? How about some INFORMATION Nissan? HUH? No wonder people get tired of waiting.

I’m still waiting to hear something from my dealer. From Nissan. Anything.
No wonder that I’M getting tired of waiting too.

RAI,

Sorry to hear your Z hasn't arrived, but I know you'll be very happy with the S2K. I got to drive a friend's, and man, what a blast (although I am having the same amount of fun with the Z).

Don't worry about the S2000's apparent lack of engine torque either. It is not important because the high redline allows for very short gearing with means the torque generated by the rear wheels is still quite high.

Congratulations on the car, and I'm sure we'll all be looking forward to some progress reports in the near future.

One thing I dont understand about the s2000 is the gas mileage. It gets 20/26, same as Z. But the s2000 weighs less, and has less horsepower/torque. I would think it should get better gas mileage.

I average a bit more than 26 mpg and I know some folks have even hit 30 mpg. The beautiful thing about the S2000 is you can drive the bloddy hell out of it and it will continue it's 20 mpg mark.

You can't say the same for many other makes.

gas milage might be something with the gearing, i mean to get pick-up off the line it might take more revs.

I don't like being a pest, so I called my dealer in early august and was told like late Sep. Then early September it was like late October. Now it's like late October. WTF. Will it ever come???

The only thing that must suck is that you waited so long and could have had the S2k months ago. Oh well, water under the bridge. Just out of curiousity, are you gonna go check out your Z preorder when it finally arrives? Who knows, u may trade in your s2k on the spot!

GL with your car!

I'm not gonna trade my S for the Z. I don't want to second guess my decision. It would be nice to have both, but I can't buy them both in the same year. Also as you guys know with the Z it's such a fun car (as is the S), I want to devote all my time getting to know the S2000.

I may not tell the dealer until I get the call. That way I can see how much longer the wait was. I now hope it gets pushed back to Dec. LOL. I hope it's not one day out or something like that.

This guy I know ordered a track Z after me. I may offer my spot to him if the dealer is OK with that.

Thought I'd bump this thread for an update.

I talked to my sales manager at nissan to get my deposit back ($1000). I was a little worried since there was nothing in writing one way or the other to say if the deposit was refundable. He had told me at the time it was refundable and he was true to his word.

He told me he had sold MY car for A LOT more than MSRP. Apparently this track model was the only one he had ordered out of at least 10-20 cars.

That's the end of my saga at least with the pre-order. Remindes me of a Led Zeppelin song: What is and what should never be
