no, that is why it is there, to prevent you from doing something really bad to the car.

It is there as a safety device so you don't damage your motor but its definately not good. Do you have your shift light set? Try setting it 500rpm before the limiter. I find that helps when I am driving a Z.

My Spec V gets loud at 5K rpm when the secondary runners open and I find that helps me to keep an eye on the tach.

I've hit mine a few times (usually when dropping into 2nd when I intended 4th). No damage done. But I don't think you want to make a practice of it.

^ I did that almost twice but was lucky before I let the clutch go I relized I was in 2nd.

At what rpm does every1 mostly shift, how close to the redline do you let it go in every gear on daily driving?

Yes it's bad, if you mean take a hammer and whack on the computer chip that cuts the fuel off

Of you mean revving towards redline, then that's fine

I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as the engine is properly warmed up first, don't do it to a cold engine.

Well, I don't do this often, but I hit up to 7,950 once in a while. Try to stay about 1,000RPM. So for you folks that have your rev. limited set at 6,800RPM, don't push to hard past 5,800RPM. It's not bad when you're doing it once in a while, but not all the time.

Are you talking about a Z33 cause we Red line at 6500? 7950 is almost 1500 RPM higher then stock. Also with the rev limiter in place I thought that wouldn't be possible stock anyways.

If you hit the rev limiter with a sledge hammer, it may be bad for your engine....just kidding.

I'm no engineer but I'm sure the engine is mechanically capable of higher RPMs without damage than the rev limiter allows. Have fun !!!

Each motor I believe will have its own limits. I Believe bouncing off the rev limiter for extended periods of time will lead to disaster. But the once in a blue moon deal probably won't hurt anything. Its pretty much like anything else...everything is fine in moderation its when you over endulge is when you start getting yourself in trouble. And over reving the motor is certainly not good and should try not to do often. Yes it can be done but, with out upgrading the valve train its something you don't want to visit often. Thats the same thing as doing a "money shift" When you are in the top of Third gear and you shift to 4th but find yourself in second. Instant kaboom!! A friend of mine just blew up his BMW M3 like that. Did you guys know you can put a BMW in any gear at any MPH. Like at 150 MPH you can put the car in first gear just don't let out the clutch!!!

The rev limiter is a safety feature, and so should be treated as such. Manufacturers will set up tolerances, and so the limiter is usually lower than what the engine can handle. However, revving it out all the time will strain the engine.

Its like your ABS - its there to help you brake, and it doesn't cause any instant damage, but its not the best practice to brake so hard each time you touch the brakes to make it kick in. You will kill your pads / rotors doing that a lot quicker than if you braked normally.

I always shift around 4K, and I've only hit the limiter once in first because I wasn't paying attention and forgot to shift

I spent the past two days at the track bouncing off the limiter. I will DEFINITELY be getting the ECU retuned this off season (winter). An Extra 500 RPM would make all the difference coming into turn 1 and out of turn 3...

In my opinion, the Stock limiter is very conservative.
