Default Question about aero package

I read a thread about a socket being left in a Z hatch (can't remember which one) but they said something about the aero package being assembled at the port. I though that it was placed on when it was made. am I wrong or did I read it wrong?

That was my car, and the rear spoiler/splash guards/kick plates/mats are installed at the port and the front spoiler is installed at the dealer.

They drill the holes and all at the port or do ya know if it comes with that at least. I don't want an angry worker doing that.

Besides -- why wouldn't they just have it on the car. Do you know why????

I am not sure how far the factory goes, whether holes are there or not, but my guess would be tha the holes would not be there until the spoiler is installed.

The reason the factory wouldn't do it is probably so they don't have to worry about what the options are and slow down to put them on. If the spoiler went on all of the cars I would guess the factory would put it on but since not all of the get it they can get most of the cars out as close as possible to each other without having to customize too much. In other words efficiency.

Default if I was to guess...

I would have guess that the holes are drilled at the port or the vehicle processing center.

I remember seeing new Bimmers at the dealer with the cosmoline coating all over them. That is really nasty stuff until you take it off with the citric acid stuff they use, but it is there to keep all the nasty salt vapor outta the wrong places. I doubt they would drill holes at the factory and leave them bare and open until you get to the port when they can just rip into the deck when it comes off the ship.

Don't really know, just a wild guess.

At the Courtesy Nissan parts website, there is a pdf file you can download that shows you how to put on the rear spoiler. Indeed, the holes are drilled at the Vehicle Processing Center at the Port of Entry using a paper template supplied as a part of the spoiler kit. In addition, the instructions specify the use of a corrosion preventative compound spray on all drilled holes in the rear deck to prevent rust. I was surprised to read that the rear spoiler kit comes with two replacement hatch gas struts and brackets. The 'stiffer' rear gas struts help support the 'heavier' rear hatch plus spoiler! (Nissan thinks of everything here!)
