Yesterday morning while driving to work it was pretty cold (frost outside...........for you so-cal people that is this strange white cold stuff we get here in the real world every fall. Kind of like the stuff you guys get in your tropical drinks only it's on the ground ) and when I drove to work, the digital readout gauge, which I have set for the digital speedometer, automatically changed to the temperature readout and had the word "ICY" under the 33 degree temp reading.
I then hit the button back to the speedo and under the speed reading the "ICY" stayed there until later when it wasn't cold anymore.
Sorry if this has been covered but I had never seen it or read about it.

When the temp gets to a certain level, it warns you that the road surface may be slick or "icy". The warning stays there as long as the temp is cold. You can switch the display back to your default, but "icy" will stay there.
The other warning is "dte". Also in the manual. Not a difficult read.

"ICY" is not something that you should ever see in Southern California. If you do, it means you should immediately turn around and head back to where you came from. You are heading into dangerous territory and if you spend too much time there, you will experience the unpleasant and frightening sensation of being "cold." Small bumps may arise on your skin and you body may shake uncontrollably. Your body temperature will drop so precipitously that your breath will magically appear in front of you when you exhale. If this happens outside of you, imagine what's going on inside! Very possibly, you may have to don extra clothing. Those shorts, T- shirt and sandals may no longer be sufficent and you may need a "jacket." This garmet uncomfortably covers ones arms. In dire situations, a "turtleneck" may even be required. Be warned that this will produce a choking, strangling feeling. Worst of all, your skin may slowly become pale. Research has indicated this may be due to lack of healthy exposure to the warming sun. It is not currently known if this condition is permanent.
Nissan has kindly taken this situation into account with the inclusion of a outside temperature sensor. Again, if "ICY" appears, IMMEDIATELY set the temperature on your climate system to maximum and return to the nearest beach at a very high rate of speed. Once you have arrived, arrange yourself on your favorite beach towel as would be standard. If you are quick in accomplishing this, it is believed you will suffer no permanent consequences. However, if you persist and ignore the "ICY" warning, you may end up in strange lands known as the "Northeast" or possibly, even the mythical place known as "Canada." You have been warned!

There are severl 3 letter codes that will display...I had the "PSI" display in a similar manner because one of my tire pressures dipped to 27...28psi is the cutoff for the sensor. After filling up the air in the tires it went off.
You know, maybe we should suggest that Nissan change this per part of the country...
For example, if you're on the East coast, you get "HOT" if it breaks 70.
Us out here in Socal get "ICY" if it dips below 65.
I think we should start a petition!

I read somewhere that for the Southern California 350Z's the ICY was to be replaced with the warning for SMOG for health reasons but the idea was eliminated because the light would burn out very quickly.
Born and raised in Southern Califorina. I can poke fun.

I never want to see frost on anything other than my glass! I had no idea of such natural occurences overnight.
BRRRRRRR. Does this mean that some people have to turn on a HEATER to warm their house in the winter?
OMG, that's just wrong!

The 'ICY' light would be my indication that I'd driven too far north or east...Don't think I'll ever see that display on my Z
Or I suppose at least not during the winter months.
Crap, since I live in Cleveland my stupid digital readout is going to be saying "ICY" for the next 11 months!!! In California does the digitial readout warn you of the following:
"Earthquake"
"Fire"
"Smog"
"Drive By"
"2 bedroom shack for sale $1,000,0000"
"Fruit Smoothe"

Hmm... that's odd... my '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee displays a similar message on it's message center, only mine says "WAITING FOR Z"
I understand after I take delivery, the message then will read "JEALOUS OF Z"
