Basically if someone wants it bad enough theyu are going to get it somehow. Only thing you can do is put up an alarm or whatever which will just take a commited theif longer.

every car can be stolen, theres no denial in that. in realations to a 350Z, its not as hard as one may assume. There are many black-market devices that reads the singal of the chip. This signal is stored and when the owner is not around, the assilant simply re-sends that singal back to the ECU. After that, it is simply a matter of jump starting the car the old fashion way. Granted that not any Joe-Smoe off the street has one of these devices nor the time and planning it takes to carry out this procedure, but with that said, 350zs are in high demands in showrooms....and in the streets.

I think most cars are stolen by tow trucks and locksmiths, so theft of the whole car is not my issue, I have insurance.

Protecting the stuff inside my car is what I care about.

Usually, the bastards bust up the car when they do this, and with my $500 deductible it pisses me off when the damage/stolen parts only totals a few thousand dollars.

I've been thinking about getting bulletproof tint to protect the windows. I've seen the deadbolts for the doors, but that looks extreme. Is there anything else you can do?

(I do fear that if you lock your car up to well it could make a thief just beat your car in)

Cool

The day after I picked up my Z, I ran out to get an AutoLock from Pepboys. I dropped $50 bucks on it, but I'm less worried about it getting stolen.

It locks around your clutch or brake so it's difficult to get to. The lock is made of steel so combined with the location of the lock it can't be easily cut through or broken.

With the immobilizer, I know there is less worry, but the last thing I need to do is replace my Z!

I agree with TSpeed. I also have the Autolock and of course the Z's immobilizer system. With the two in place I feel pretty safe when I leave the car soemwhere. This coupled with the fact that I try not to drive it to "shady" places helps. I am ,ore worried about someone keying it or just messing it up than I am of them stealing it honestly. If the choice is between a Z with an autolock and a car without one, my friend, a car thief that just got out of jail said that most thieves will take the car without one. No car, no mater how much you can sell the parts for is worth **** RAPE. Plus, I'm sure that CLUB breaker thingy is really damn convenient to carry around. "What? No, officer....this..is....my...my...jibber jabber.......I'm going to jail arent I....ok, let me get my toothbrush". Anyway, if someone wants it, you sitting in thecar isnt going to save it (think Carjackings, they suck, my GF was just carjacked, thank god shes ok), so just drive the damn thing and dont let it mess you up, "Cause then the terrorists win!" :-)

Thieves who do actually steal cars the old fashioned way will be able to remove the pedal in seconds.

I dunno about everyone else but, if I were the kind of person that really wants to steal a Z or any car for that matter unless I had access to the keys I wouldn't bother with trying to break-in or use some sophisticated method to take the car. New security systems are just too complicated. It takes too long and would attract too much attention. I would car jack them for their car. Now you have an intact car with the keys already on the road or preparing to get on the road and no alarms. It would be fast and the confusion that results would give you some extra get away time or a diversion. I would have a pre-selected destination to deliver or chop the car before the police could get involved or lo-jacked and get paid on the spot. I would also make sure I had an alibi for that time period and if I get caught in the act I would make sure I was busted on a technicality or a lesser charge like joyriding. "Just saw some guy take off and he left this car with the keys in it ... " Take money and any other freebies in the car and start over again.

Like Josh said earlier, if someone wants the car bad enough, they'll just take it. The autolock is for my peace of mind. If the Z gets jacked, there isn't anything I could do anyway.

all it takes is someone with a tow truck, a wharehouse in the middle of nowhere and a little bit of time.

I got a motorcycle and im always freaked about that thing getting jacked. Hell you just need a pickup and a screwdriver for that.

Default club isnt worth crap

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can hacksaw the steering wheel in seconds and remove the club.

My WS6 was stolen with the club on, security system enabled, in a "secure" garage in New Orleans.

I've read that thieves now are writing down vin numbers and going to dealerships and getting keys cut to the vin #. Hmmmm...

You know - in my manual and for my old 1997 pathfinder, it says "Nissan does not keep a copy of your key combination and keyplate"...

I asked my dealer for a keyplate and he mailed me the key combination a week later. WTF????

So the dealers have access to every combo? Or is it just the dealer that sold you the vehicle? He LITERALLY logged on to Nissan's database and retreived it. ARGH.

I don't know how it works for nissan, but I went to a honda dealership one day to service my car. while waiting I decided to get an extra key cut. walked up to the parts window, blah blah blah, dude asks me for my vin #, I had my insurance card in my wallet, gave him the vin, dude looks in some huge book, disappears, comes back with key. Didn't ask for any proof of ownership, driver's license or anything. this was about 3 yrs ago.
last month I was told that thieves have caught on to this. was told to cover vin plate. don't know how legal this is. I know it's illegal to remove a vin plate, but I don't know about just covering it up. SCARY really scary!
