Just called Chip for an update. The shop he had the tank sent out to will now probably have the tank through tomorrow and into Wednesday. If I'm lucky, they may have it reinstalled by the end of the week. Chip, you're going to hell.

I called a few minutes ago and asked to speak with the owner or general manager. The person's name I was given is Dan Keizer. I left my name and number and expect ( )a call in the morning.

They were there with car problems, captive in the waiting room, and getting hammered by car salesmen.

I’m going to spend some serious time in purgatory.
Don't feel too bad. One of my favorite passtimes when waiting for my car to be fixed is to play "annoy the car salesmen". I'll pretend to be interested in a newer car, check out everything on the lot, kick some tires, etc. Of course I'll find some reason not to buy any particular car the salesman is showing me.

But don't feel too bad for the salesmen either. A couple of times I actually found something I liked, and bought it.

You can always just subscribe to it. That way you automatically get email notifications about updates to the thread and don't have to remember to check on it occasionally.

Well, no call from the owner this morning as promised. No surprise there, really. I called again at around 3:45pm and again left a message for the owner to call me back. Basically, same ol' same ol' for today. Tomorrow is the first chance for the most recent commitment to be broken. That commitment being the gas tank returning from repair for reinstallation.

I'd be tempted to pay some kids $20 each and have them key every car in the lot - but that's just street justice and their insurance company would lose out more than they would.

I know, key the owner's SL55 (actually that's be a sin) and take his rims as your own.

(disclaimer: I do not condone keying)

Are you applying for a job?

I know we're both kidding. Its wrong and punishes many of the wrong people. Regarding the insurance claim, dealers' insurance is extremely high and their recovery from such an incident would likely run a massive out of pocket cost for the deductible.

I just spoke with Chip to see if they've received the gas tank back yet. He told me that they had and he had two guys lining up the suspension right now. It should be done by the end of the day. I asked him if he'd already made arrangements with the towing company to bring the car back down (since the tow company they use seems to require 24hours before moving). He seemed confused and told me that he had not. I told him that that would be a good idea at this point. He indicated that he thought I would just drive up to get the car. I laughed. He suggested that maybe he could pull somebody from the sales department to drive the car down to me if I could drive him back. Have a sales guy drive the car to me? Put 375 pointless miles on my car? Burn $40 of gas? I don't know where to begin. He tells me that Jay will have to authorize that. Oh goodie. I miss Jay like a hole in the head. He says he'll try to get in touch with him. Then Chip does what he does best. He takes himself out of the picture, telling me that he will be leaving today at 2pm for a doctor's appointment. Super. Now he has passed the buck to someone else with no accountability to himself or the other person. BTW, I'm still waiting for a call back from Mr. Keizer, the owner.

That last sentence reminded me to give ol' Mr. Keizer another try. According to the receptionist, he hasn't come in yet today. I again left my name, number, and request that he return my call. I also asked whether he had been in at all so far this week. The receptionist affirmed that he had been there yesterday.

Have someone drive your car to you....then drive the BACK?? You would put 3x as many miles on your car(assuming they drove it to you then you drove the person back and then you drove back home).

Wow these guys are really bright aren't they?

I don't want to turn this into an emotion-fest. I am not happy at the way this was resolved. I did get a call from Chip telling me that my car was filled with gas and ready to be picked up. I did get a call back from Dan Keizer, the GM. I did not get any real satisfaction from that conversation. Hopefully that dealership will improve based upon this experience. I won't know because I will not shop there again. Neither will my family or friends. Neither will anyone who reads this.

Did you get it back yet? Is everything OK now? Hopefully, they did not screw anything else up in the process.
Good Luck with the pick up.
