Default VIN issues with insurance company

I called my insurance company to add the Z to my policy. Insurance company says the VIN number is incorrect. I looked up the VIN on nissanusa for the dealer inventory. It matches perfectly with what the dealer gave me. What gives?

Ask your insurance company what they mean when they say incorrect. I'm sure you have Title/Registration with your VIN on it. Send them a copy of that if they need it. Do you have a local agent or an 800 number. If an agent, then take the car to him and show him. If an 800 number, get a fax number or email address where you can send these things along with a digital photo of your VIN. Past that, it sounds like their problem, not yours. Software not updated?

I wouldn't trust what you get from the NissanUsa site. Have the dealer call your agent and they can give them the correct info.

You can see your VIN by standing at your right side mirror and looking down through the window at the very bottom where it joins the dash.

You may have just given them an incorrect digit; an O for an 0, or something like that.

The car is new and I'm picking it up this Saturday. So looking at the vin myself is not possible. I'll just have the dealer call

Your existing insurance will normally provide coverage for three (3) days following the purchase of a new vehicle, in which time you're supposed to take the actual car down to the insurance agent.

Hope this helps. I wouldn't worry so much about having insurance specifically for the Z when you take delivery, as long as you already have a current policy in force.

Most dealerships now won't allow you to leave the lot with the car unless you have proof on insurance on it. They usually make you call your insurance company on the spot to take it.

Type just your VIN into Google Search and see if it returns your car.

Almost. Most dealerships now won't allow you to leave the lot with the car unless you have proof of insurance. If there is a lienholder on the vehicle, then they are required to verify full coverage insurance.

Yeah, make sure you have zero and not the letter O in there anywhere. If I had seen this earlier, I could have looked it up while I was at work (insurance). It's probably a simple mistake within the first 11 digits/letters and the person at the company was too lazy or stupid to figure out what it was.

In NJ they may let you take the vehicle if you present an ID card for any other vehicle on the policy. I'd also bring along a copy of the policy declarations (the thing that shows the vehicles, coverages, etc.)

I assume your insurance company isn't open on Saturdays...hope they let you take your Z.

I had this problem with my insurance company as well.

I think they ended up saying that a "1" was actually an "i".

I had the same problem when I bought my car. It had just arrived at port when I called the insurance company. They said their database was likely not updated and they followed up with the dealer to confirm VIN. I suspect probably the same issue

That's exactly what it was. My insurance company did not have their database updated. Took delivery of the car this morning. Excellent!
