Default Value of the Z in time

What do you think the 350Z will be worth down the road?

3 years old w/ 50K miles

5 years old w/ 100K miles

10 years old w/ 150K miles

What do you think is the least a 350Z will ever be worth provided it is still shiny and runs well? I am asking within reason here. Obviously not looking to attain Model T status or anything.

BTW, I've seen all the TCO estimates from edmunds.com and other sources. I put very little faith into their estimates. I'm looking for forum hypothesis here.

It would be nice if it had the cult car status like the MkIV Supra Turbo.

Pretty unlikely that will happen. Still, the Z is in more limited production that your standard Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. The 90 - 96 300ZX still fetch a pretty penny... Not looking for miracles, just realistic guesses.

Interesting take on things. Weird that a '95 Maxima, hell a '95 Civic with 150K on it is still worth money. For some reason though, you believe a 350Z (remember I said a shiny, maintained car) with similar stats is entirely worthless? As I said, interesting. Or perhaps you are wealthy to the point where anything less than (was is) $14K is not worth mentioning. Anyhow, keep 'em coming.

I do finance at a car dealership for a living and i called for a bid on a 2003 touring 6mt exc cond tires gone ppw no nav w 15,000 miles the other day and it was worth 23,500

I think this car will hold its value better than a taurus however my thoughts would be in wholesale figures for a touring

3yr 50 k 15-16k

5yr 100,000 8-9k

10 yr 150,000 .....one dollar

the corvettes have been holding their value extremely well however this is due to there not being many of them.

The sad truth about our cars is virtually anyone can afford one so the used car market will always have a good amount of them for sale.

Anybody trade one in with 50k miles??

Wholesale is a whole other animal. Basically when a car is worth $1 to a dealer, it is because it is not worth much to him at auction. Someone will buy it at auction and then sell it at his buy here pay here lot for $5K. So the actual market value of the car is considerably more than the wholesale value (really you're talking about tradein value). Jeez, $1 to $5K is a 5000% markup! A 1995 Honda Civic with 150K miles is still worth a few grand at least. The Z is a much nicer car. To say that a Z is affordable to anyone new is a bit much. $35K for a new car and that is a hefty car payment for most people. With no money down (as MOST people buy cars now), interest free for 60 months that is just shy of $600/mo. Not many people make that kind of car payment. Probably 90%+ of cars on the road are costing people less than that. I'm sure a Z will hold its value better than a Taurus as well, but that is not a realistic threshold. It'll also hold its value better than a Mustang, Camaro, Intrepid. I'd say probably also better than a Accord, Camry, etc.

I was reading the dupont registry and someone was selling a '69 GTO they drove straight home from the dealer and kept packed away for 35 years. They were asking $250,000 I believe.

So keep the mileage low, and in 30 years, with inflation, you'll probably get back what you paid for it.

I can't believe anyone thinks that after only 5 years this car will only be worth 8K. I have a 1997 Ford Probe 4 cylinder that was worth about that at the 5 year mark. The Z certianly will be worth more given that it cost more initially and is a much nicer car. I'll bet that after 5 years, the car will be worth 13-15k depending on options and trim level....But I guess we'll see.

EXACTLY. And as beautiful as that car looks, the aftermarket rims/bodykit/graphics probably only marginally contributed to the resale value of the car. What was the straight KBB or NADA resale on the car when it sold?

KBB Retail is $5745. Means virtually nothing on older cars especially. Its all about condition and what people are actually willing to pay for the car. I'm quite sure that ACV (Actual Cash Value) to a dealer would have been $2500 had I traded it in at the dealership when I bought my Z. A couple of weeks in autotrader and I netted another $4000. I still feel like I gave it away.

So what do you guys think the ROADSTERs will be worth? Im guessing the limited production should help maintain the value, even though I cant imagine ever wanting to sell my baby!

Roadsters will be worth $1.15 due to their 15% price premium over the coupe.

Thumbs up

I agree with some of the others on what the Z or cars are really worth in a few years. We'll never really know until 5 years come by. Unless they stop making the 350Z after 5 years maybe it will have a better value if it isn't replaced. As far as reaching the Supra that will never happen since they sold so few Supras a year which make it even more rare. Rare doesn't always mean high value just look at the 93-95 RX-7 which was only sold 3 years and is much cheaper than a 93-98 Supra. It is all about what people are really willing to pay for a car. Now of course the more used 350Z or Vettes they have make it a lot harder to ask for high price depend on the shape it in.
