I know people have spoken about this problem but no real info on why... perhaps someone can help me out here...
When I shift.. am I being a limp whristed flake cause I feel a pause between the gears? Do I need to move it into gear harder.. or with more force so I dont feel the pause ( like it is hard to get it thru neutral area )....
Let me know
Last Standard I had was.. forever ago and atruck with sloppy gearing.. I do love the way the Z feels so solid in shifting though.

When I picked up my Z, the shifter was very tight, and I think it helps to shift slowly at first for the breakin. After 3000 miles and many many shifts, it has started to loosen somewhat, and I find I can shift faster now, and I don't have to use alot of force, less than at first.
What took me awhile to get used to was the shifts into 3rd and 4th. Whether shifting up or down, I had a hard time getting into 3rd and 4th because I tried to fit it in gear myself. Once I got accustomed to the shifter's centering action, I let the shifter center itself between 3rd and 4th, then just push up for 3rd, or pull down for 4th. Its much easier to shift now, both because I've learned the shifter, and it has loosened up a bit. Happy shifting!

Mine is like that, and I've had it in to the dealer for that. The ticket is still open because they feel it too, but have nothing to compare it to. Internetabyss said that is how is was before it started grinding and necessitated a new trans. Said it was a mis-adjusted clutch. Next weekend I'm going to have 88Shrio Special drive my car and compare it to his. We will be at a car show at the dealership, and can figure out if its just me, or some cars aren't as smooth as others.
check out my previous thread on this

although mine is getting a little smoother as time goes by. The techs said its a whole new trans design to them, so they are clueless right now.

I feel a bit of resistance there, but it feel to me that its just some stiffness in the shift gate, not in the tranny itself. The shifter is designed for nice positive action (especially to help find all 6 gears) so I think to really guide the shifter accurately there is a ight squeeze there. This is just speculation on my part based on the feel of it.
