POLL: Are the door handles growing on you?
How about another useless poll? When I first saw the Z
I thought: What a beautiful car -- but what's with the freaky
door handles? I hated them. But somehow they've really
grown on me -- wouldn't trade em for anything. I was just
wondering if other people felt the same way.

I personally don't like them that much after a while... It was funny when I walked away from my car the other day I heard really loudly "Those are some ugly *** door handles" coming from some couple that walked up to my car. IT was funny because they hadn't seen me leave the vehicle, and when I went back to pretend I was getting something out of the car htey both shut up immediately and walked away..hehe
... Too bad I agree with them

If I decide to purchase a Z, the first mod will be shaving the door handles.
They especially look like crap on darker colors. From a distance, it looks almost as if the dealer accidentally left protective strips on the car. I love the way the car drives, and overall looks, but those door handles look like they were the idea of a four year old lacking basic common sense. Think about it, it's not like the design of the door handles is revolutionary or something, employing some new radical technology. They're simple, and any other automotive manufacturer could of thought it up and probably have... They're as out of place as they would be on say, a Honda, Volvo, Mercedes or any car for that matter. They're a gimmick, plain and simple.

I had ordered a LeMan, then I chickened out and ordered a Black. Then I saw a Chrome on the dealer lot, and the door handles fit right in. I love it. And I bought the car. It's funny how some of my friends go...How do I open this door?
Cracks me up. It seems they expect a small button or something to pop the door open. Adds to the futuristic look of the car. My $.02.

I really liked the concept for those handles; basically a flat strip of metal curved so it attached at the top and bottom and you could get your hand in there (good for lefties and righties). It had a trigger that you opened the door with, almost as if you were holding a pistol. Motortrend's March 2001 issue had some excellent pictures of it.
Apparently they changed the design because they were worried about it catching on things (since the front was open), and it makes sense that plastic is cheaper than the metal of the concept. I found some obscure article that quoted the chief designer saying that was his least favorite compromise on the Z.
As it is, well, it's different. I haven't seen one up close, so I can't say too much more than that. But what the heck? It'a a Z, of course it's different!

I like the look, and have all along but the other really good thing about them is that they draw attention to themselves so that when anybody goes to get in they will grab the handles and not put their sticky, greazy, dirty hands all over my beautiful paint job!
I LOVE THIS FREAKIN CAR!

I can't believe how many compliments I've gotten on those door handles. The first thing people say is what a great looking car. Then they'll say what a great color (Lemans sunset), Then they'll say I love those door handles!!
