Default Does DB sometimes look purple?

Apologies if this has been addressed before. I saw two different 03 Daytona Blue Zs that had purple hues in direct sunlight. Then I saw an 04 that didn't. Is the paint different? Does it matter how clean the car is? Anybody with a DB know what I'm talking about? My issue is, I want the DB but I don't want it to ever ever ever look purple. Thanks!

Brickyard sometimes looks purple. I have never seen DB look anywhere near purple though. Perhaps the one you saw had been clearcoated with a custom pearl clear or something.

I'm thinking the same thing. I have a DB and never seen a HINT of purple before. The paint for the 03 and 04 are the same. You will be fine with DB, it's an awesome color w/ no purpleness.

Same here. I've got a 03 DB coupe-- have had it for over a year-- washed/waxed and detailed in all kinds of lighting conditions and have never noticed any kind of purple tinge or coloration. Go for the DB, I think it truly enhances the look of the Z.

Just picked up my DB 2004 350Z yesterday and don't see any purple in it. In fact I was talking to my co worker who said it looks like electric blue to him.

No purple. But under mercury vapor street lamps DB has the most incredible glow to it. That's what sold me on it over black or red.

I have seen one at sunset that takes on a blueish purple. Sort of like the purple 90-91 prelude.

Thanks, all. They were both at the same dealership, and it was the first time I really saw a DB up close, so it's possible that they had some kind of wax or coating on it.

The whole car didn't look purple, just along some of the body lines. It was a similar appearance to that Ford Mystic(?) paint that looks like different colors from different angles.

Hmmm....Blue or Black? What to do, what to do...

Thumbs down

Heh. Stupid rose-colored glasses always mess me up!

I am also unhappy to report that dealer greed is alive in well in Northern Virginia. I was just informed by an Internet Sales Specialist that I will have to pay MSRP for a Base 04 "because of the high demand". Wow. Guess he's never been to Carmax.com.

No, I can't justify paying MSRP. Rosenthal is who I received the quote from, however. Do you have some feedback?

Yeah, never buy from Rosenthal. I work for them part time and they still tried to rip me off, $1000 for the "apearence package" which includes: pin stipes, door guards and wheel locks. All of which I didn't want. Standard charge, so they say. They have an 03 Track in the showroom with a reduced price of $35,000. I paided $1500 less then that out the door for an 04.5 Track. I highly recommend going to Browns Sterling Nissan, talk to Brian Ring, he's a sales manager, great guy. Got exactly what I wanted and they even gave it to me cheaper than what I offered them.

Thanks for the heads-up. I think I'm going to buy the SB Base from Carmax in White Marsh. It's the wrong color, but the savings from MSRP will buy a hell of a paint job.
